In order to be able to quickly PFL recorded channels on an HD24 in a portable live recording rig, would a simple, passive summing buss resistor network suffice for simple monitoring of sources prior to recording?

My first concern is what value series resistors to use. (Example circuits I've found give typical series resistor values of between 1k and 10k, depending on the no. of channels to be summed (and the summing amp used).

My other concern would be the type of summing amp used. Rather than go to the trouble of building one, I was thinking of using a headphone amp, since it will only be used for headphone monitoring.

Ideally, summing 16 channels would be good, but I'm aware noise may become an issue as more channels are summed, so would settle for an 8-channel summing circuit, for which I could then devise a 1-8 (9-16) channel toggle arrangement.

The above is all drawing board level. Any suggestions to help get this to the workbench?

Sorry for the multiple posts on other forum threads; I'm not sure in which such a question best belongs.

Cheers all,
Robin.
