I wanted to see what other thought would be good additions to my guitar setup. I am looking to get a more professionally define and controled sound, because I use sampled drums and bass; guitar is my only live sound.

Guitar: RSM1000 (Quite high quality)

to

BOSS GT 5

to

Rogue CG-100R Amp with two 12 inch speakers.

to hypothetical excellent microphone

PC soundcard line in

What do you think would be the general types of components to add? Thanks!

PS: Currently I record right from my GT 5 but I will be micing my amp soon, so assume that I am using a mic that accurately duplicates my amp sound.

Also - let me know if you think said additions should go after the mic or before - I am unfamiliar with these types of things - thanks!

well...

It all depends on your style, kind of music and sound you are looking for. BUT it never hurts to have an EQ and a Compressor.

Peace...

Re: well...

Thanks - what I meant was really regardless of style - just the things to have a strong clear sound.

But more specifically my sound would fit into the modes of satriani to metallica.

See, my BOSS GT 5 has an EQ and a compressor. I guess that it really has everything, I would just wanna get special racks. Oh well, perhaps I do have most everything I need already!

What exactly does that do. I know Kirk Hammett uses one.

hehehe

Well...you just have to get out there and try one. I could be trying to tell you all the choices you have for a decade...

In otherwords, it's a multi fx processor?

That's all I needed to know!

its a harmonizer rack .... steve vai uses one on the song "Ballerina" on his "Passion and Warfare" album ....

Oh - See that was my gues, but I thought why the hell would kirk use that? He never uses a harmonizer!

Steve Vai I got ya.........I don't want one of those!

well satriani uses:
DigiTech Whammy
Boss CE-2
Boss DD-1
Boss DD-2
Vox Wah-Wah
Dunlop Wah-Wah
Chandler Digital Delays

metallica uses
full orchestral backing

probably a couple of pedals would be easier to house than the full orchestra and you wouldnt need to feed them :)

Hmmm, somebody doesn't like Metallica's S and M.

Anyhow - I basically have everything on the satch list (and I am well aware of what he uses).

Because I have the BOSS GT 5 which is the best!

I am not looking for more effects - I'm looking for whatever is used to purify and professionalize the sound.

But you know I first need to really get the Sm 57 and mic my amp - because the sound of just my gt 5 is not doing me justice!!

Thanks guys

you want a professional sound then get a professional EQ and Compressor, Gate, Reverb, and Preamp. Get the works, trust me your GT-5 may have it, but it can't compete with the professional stuff(or if you use your GT still stuff this stuff AFTER the mic).

Also another thing you said "PC Soundcard Line in"..from the sound of it, it sounds like you are using maybe a Soundblaster or knock off variety? THIS is where i'd start, check out the pc recording forum for suggestions on a soundcard. I recommend an Audiophile 2496 or Delta 44/66/88(which ever works for you). I personally have a delta 44 and it's crystal clear in sound.

www.midiman.net for info on the soundcards.

I got ya there - I am looking for things after the mic - although I don't even use a mic.

I don't have any money to get things - but I wanna know what to get when I do get it, thanks for the info.

As I said on the other thread I use the mobo soundcard - and you know why, because I couldn't get my soundblaster card to work with the mobo one - even when disabled.

I would like to get a better soundcard - but no money to upgrade

unfortunately!

The audiophile's are actually around 150 or so, and a VERY worthy investment, it'll improve the quality of your recordings alot.

i gave up on micing my guitar. i only mic acoustic and classical guitars now.

i either use the tech21 sansamp classic into an fmr audio rnp

or

i plug a 1/4" into the external amp out of my fender deville and connect that to my whirlwind director DI box. then i take the DI to the RNP.

i get the amp's pre-amp without the mic hassle.

This is exactly what I was trying to do. I don't think I will mic my amp because I can't afford a mic.

But the BOSS GT has plenty of pre amp emulations AND speaker simulations...

...I just don't quit like the sound I am getting - but I am gonna work on the settings to create some real good sounding setups.

I haven't had to use the pre amps and SSs because I wasn't even recording.

if you want a better tone, don't use the GT-5 for your main sound..

What would I use for my main sound? The GT 5 is a very high quality processor!

I love its sounds - its just that it alone lacks the feeling of a powerful amp even with it's pre amps and speaker emulations....

the sound of the gt out of my amp speakers is insanely good - that DAMMED RADIO STATION COMES THROUGH THO!!!!!!!!

SO I CANT MIC IT DAMMITT...........

You know he uses the huge money he gets as a Doctor to finance his career as a record producer at an exact loss. Net income = 0

How can the poor guy afford a mic?
