suggestions for tight bass please

hi guys, I am doing a track for a friend but I cant seem to get any punchy hip-hop patches off my roland jv1010. Can you please suggest some?

ALso, I could not find a good snare on the jv1010. What would you do in this situation(I dont have a sampler)
Is there a way I can edit attack and decay for useable patches(I have never editted patches in my life)

when you say punchy do you mean:

puff daddy: bad boy for life (deep but with slap overtones)
beat nutz: puffin la (deep but not sub thump, no slap)
outkast: love these hoes (heavy on low mids, but nothing trully deep)

i've got the roland xv-3080 which probably has some similar bass patches to the jv stuff, and i find myself combining patches to get the sound i want. like combining to sh101 with the slap2 with the slap sound much lower in volume than the deep to give a little kick.

I just listened to your post. Phat. I might be getting some pointers from you as you know what you are doing. I use a jv1010 so we have some of the same sounds.

I have been using more than one bassline, sometimes transposing one down an octave and it sounds bigger.
