Suggestions for hooking up 388 to mixer

Hi there,

as some of you might know, I've recently bought a 388 which I'm going to use as my only recording platform but I'm having problems to decide which way to go, especially since I'm lost on the 388 and its features - I'm not sure what I really need

Right now, I've only connected the line in for each channel on the 388 which gets fed from my 8 subgroup/bus'es and then I've returned the 388's main mix (or whatever it's called on the 388) to 2 channels on the mixer. that's all I've connected and I was hoping that it would be enough?

I know that there's PGM-out rca's on the back (for each channel I suppose?)
but do I really need to use them?

The problem is that I don't have any channels free on the mixer now (which are 24, on my mx8000 mixer) and I really want to keep my current setup (contains samplers and synths, controlled from a mpc2000xl midi-seq), since I'm planning to do arrangements and all _live_. (I won't add effects _after_ recording either, in most cases - if I need to effect stuff later, I was hoping I could do that via the main out and just pull down the volume/mute the other tracks on 388 or something like that)

sorry for bugging you ppl, but soon I won't have to ;)

btw. I find the meters do differ from the mx8000 and 388 when I compare them... 388 always seem lower, has this somethinig to do that they are metering in different units?

note:
cjacek and everyone, I'm going to borrow a digital cam. asap so I can take pics of the 388 =)
