In my studio, the DAW system is not connected to the internet and so if I want to sample from Youtube or whatever, I must either record & transfer digitally from my internet computer; or I can use an audio cable for connection to the sound mixer. Both computers share the same power amp and are connected via the patchbay to various outputs and the mixer.
The DAW system uses the E=MU 0404 card interface, whilst the internet terminal uses a generic outboard USB interface (little no-name box from Maplins).
This was the first time testing this arangement. I was recording Robert Shaw's famous Indianapolis speech from Jaws.
While I was monitoring, very suddenly, and for no apparent reason, this hail of noise, which I can only describe as 'white noise?' Shhhh! came through. I nearly jumped out of my chair. I had to stop and start Youtube and start again. I exited my browser and started again. I've made three successful recordings since, without a single hitch.
Anyone have any ideas what could have caused this?
