Hey everyone, i just got a DM-24 and it seems to be awesome but........ i have no idea how to use it lol. before the tascam ive been using small analog mixers so the digital thing is kinda crazy right now....... all i want to do right now is just get some kind of signal........ im litterally going from an sm57 to dm24 direct to the line in of the soundcard (for now) my interface is on the way. all i want is a signal cuz right now im getting nothing. could someone please tell me what all the settings should be at just to get a signal? Im using Vegas 4.0 if that helps. Thanks

Mike

If you were to put a head set on and put it into the headphone jack on the DM24 can you hear the signal from your 57 then??
Just asking because I'm wondering if you got the IO on the board setup right.

True

Check your I/O settings.

I think until you get the interface you may have to set the DM24 as a internal clock. Also once you get the mixer working,, be patient and dont get frustrated. It will pay off in the end. If you knew your Analog console pretty well, just remember that you can probably do the same stuff plus more with the dm24. Learn the board and try to set it up closely to what your analog setup was.
you just gotta find those virtual faders, etc

working

hey, i got some of the pres to give me a signal on the cans but some of them arent giving me anything. some arent giving as big of an output as the others too. its weird. Hopefully its not a problem with the pres and Im just missing something. I can really see what they were talking about when they said that the trim just jumps up out of nowhere when you turn the knob all the way clockwise. to hear the output on the phones i had to put the knob at around 4 oclock.

A couple of things to check ( I dont know your total situation so
dont be bothered if you have already covered these)

1) just for the hell of it set your fader to 0db, make sure you press down on the fader because they are touch sensitive and they wont read being nudged.
then set your trim level how you want. do the exact same thing with all your faders and trims. always mute ch's before putting your mic in.

2) Press shift then press the IO key, then press ch 1-16 in the IO section, make sure they are all set to mic line not set to return.
If you already know this then disregard.

I checked out what you told me to do just in case and preamp #1,6 are still giving out quite a bit less output than the others. #8 has almost no output at all and # 9,10,11 and 12 have no output. 9,10,11 and 12 are one of the groups of four in the phantom power department so im wondering if theres something thats not set right for that entire group. I checked in the I/O section and everything is the same as the others. I dont know whats going on.

Thanks for your help.

I will go out to the studio later and see what I can figure out for you, Im sure its something thats just not configured right in one of the banks.
(1) Question, You are just hooking a sm57 into the board via XLR cable or Quater inch unbalenced??
(2) Are you just experimenting with the board with nothing else hooked up to it or if something is hooked up what is it??

Check it out again and post what you found.

Like Marco Polo said,, im sure its just a setting.

I hae the same problems when my bass stopped giving me a signal on a seperate set of banks.

I went to the I/O settings and found that I had swithed them from M/L to Tdiff. There is a little button that toggles between the two. Switched it back to M/L and walla, worked fine. I will never do that again and forget it.

Hey guys. Ive got the 57 hooked up by XLR and nothing else is hooked up at the moment. Im trying to make it as simple as possible for now untill i get a grasp on all the fuctions. Im pretty sure Ive got everything set to M/L too. hmmm

WEll, I guess Tascam is still there

I didnt really believe them when they said if you bought a DM24 before the year was out that they would send you a free meter bridge. Well they did, mine came today so that tells me that Tascam is at least working. They need to put the damn Forums back up though.

For sure. the forums where the reason why i got the dm24. As for the meterbridge, I got mine as a factory refurb so that deal didnt apply to me. I live in Canada though and so i ended up saving almost $2000 CND by getting in that way, I figured that if i wanted the bridge i would just get it later on. Hope you enjoy the new mixer. Dont you just love all the little lights right when you turn it on? lol

LOL

Yeah, I love the lights. My TDM4000 does the same thing. I like to turn it on when people come into the studio and it lights up and all the faders start moving up and down. People be amazed.

The TMD4000 doesnt do Fader Calibration at power up though. I used to flip through the layers to get that effect. LOL

If anyone knows how to get tascam to cut one of us old DM24 users a deal on the meter bridge I would love to know??
