Stupid copy and paste question

This happens to me alot:

I have an event on a track that starts at say 04:04:118 and I want to copy this event and paste it at another part in the song (something like: I've already got chorus1 recorded and I want to copy and paste to make chorus2.) Here's how I do it: I select the event and performe the 'Copy' command. But in order to paste it so that it starts at the correct time, I have to check the event properties to find the starting time (04:04:118 ) and then when I paste I have to type in the starting time so that it doesn't just paste it at xx:01:000 (then it would be out of synch)

Do you know what I mean?

My question is: is there a way to copy and paste without having to constantly check and retype the starting time of the event?

I use Cake9.

Yes, there is an easier way to perform this function. :)

First, I would change the timeline from time into measures.

Then highlight the pieces you want to copy. (left click the pieces while holding the "Ctrl" button.

When you get to the last piece you want to move "double click" it. (If you are only moving one piece then just double click that one piece).

It will open a new window.

Before you do anything (in the new window), press the snap to grid, then choose MEASURES.

In that window, highlight the piece you are moving, hold the CTRL button and move the piece into the location that you want.

Example...

You have already created the INTRO, BODY 1, and your CHORUS 1.

Highlight the BODY1 and the CHORUS 1.

Hold the CTRL.

Then drag the beginning of B1 and C1 (which has now become B2 and C2) to the end of B1 and C1.

Everything should line up perfectly.

I hope I explained that to you in the proper manner. :)

If that did not make sense to you, I will try to be more specific and also share this info with you by explaining it in a different light/example.

Hey Mr Lip...I was pretty much doing it the same way :)
It seems like I have found the hard way to do most everything in Cakewalk :)

Hey Spin thanks for that..now if my ask..does that apply for Audio and Midi?..and by the way dont get lost..Im going to get my list of Bonehead things Im doing in Cakewalk and pick yours and Al Chucks brains and
all others in the know :)

Thanks again!

I like that idea...

and when you get your list going I'll probably be able to think of a few things to add too.

Yep, it applies to both AUDIO and MIDI.

I would be honored to help you with any of your questions.

:)

peace and goodwill...

Excellent!

Man I wish someone told me this 3 years ago. I could have saved a lot of time.

One addition though, it is not necessary to double-click the clip you wish to copy. The operation can be performed in the Track view.

Highlight the selection you want and hold down Ctrl while dragging it to where-ever you want a copy of it.

Thanks a lot SPINSTERWUN!

The one thing that bugs me the most about CW is the Copy and Paste.
CW, reacts differently depending on how you select the part.
Selecting the "Clip" produces the problem of lining up the time.
BUT if you select the clip by dragging on the ruler from measure to measure
(providing the snap is set to measure) the copy and paste will work proerly.
I had this nightmare on a clip that only had notes on 2&4 for a click.
The paste would be off after the first repeat of the clip.
I found in the manual...that CW treats the clip differently if selected by dragging in the
ruler.
