i have a project studio at home and i was looking to make a few upgrades. kinda just trying to figure out what order i should do them in..

i currently have
mac g5
logic 7
rockit 8 monitors and sub
2 firepods i just use for line level
2 presonus studio tubes
1 focusrite trackmaster pro :(
1 groovetubes brick
a couple of outboard comps/exciters
nuemann tlm-103
a bunch of 57s
58
audix fusion drum mics
d112

i was thinking of getting a set of plugins for analog emulation, a pair of c414's,
or upgrading preamps... which do you think? or am i better going with something else entirely? i mostly record metal/rock... thanks for the help

The preamps on the firepods aren't bad. A really nice "gold channel" might be good for you (nice mic, nice pre, nice compressor maybe...).

Personally I would look at expanding my mic closet, or investing in room treatments first. I know room treatment doesn't sound exciting and it's not really something you can show off to your friends/clients, but it is an important part of making sure your mixes will sound accurate and consistent.

A pair of c414's would rock though!

thanks baker,
appreciate the advice.. only problem is i know where my stuff is now is in no way the permanant spot, with no prospects of having a permanant spot.. so i'm very hesitant to treat a room that i will be having to tear down sooner than later.. unless anyone has ideas for temporary treatment..

i def need treatment my room is extremely small and hides bass. its 7x8x8

Get some treatment.... Just about an 8' cube, that's practically a worst case scenario! Make some 4x2 foot 703 panels, like as many as you can fit in there. Put em against the wall, take em with you when you move.
