The "Studio Projects" thread has been pretty tame, compared to some other threads in the past. I got into it with Alan in the "Alan Hyatt" thread. It's all pretty silly, really.
But, you also posted some good info and questions in the process... and I can't wait to see how Alan answers them (if and when PMI Audio Group ever gets it's own forum). ;)

What would you like me to say...The only one I have issue with is you. sdelsolray is nothing like you. We seem to be able to disagree, but he does not go off like you do.

He does not search out the web to be sure there is a SP dig after each post I make like you do. He does not find usless information to post about someone who says they found something wrong, like you're last post on the guy with the C4's. You don't even chack the facts before you make a statement like that. Do you know for sure he has a problem? Maybe he has another problem.

That was the first time anyone has said anything about the C4 capsules having a level issue since March of last year when we first started selling them. Here we are 18 months later having sold some 3000 pairs of C4's, and you go out of your way to find a guy who finally may have a problem.

You sure did not go out of your way to learn we have sold 3000 units with no complaints other than the shock mounts, and we replaced everyone that asked for it. So, you look for the bad, and not the good. Let me tell you, 3000 units and no major issues is as good as any major brand.

Does that answer your question?

We all know DJL is a big tough guy behind a computer screen who can curse out the best of everyone. Put him in a room without his computer and a few of us, and I bet he would sing a different tune altogether.

Nothing on this bbs would be nice... except for maybe the link to your new PMI Audio Group forum if and when you ever get another one.

krs,

I have A/B'd the two mics in question and was pleasantly surprised. At the time, the C1 gave a truer recording of the acoustic guitar we used, ie: it was more accurate than the U87, hence my question to you. I couldn't say one was "better" than the other from those results and if I were to repeat the A/B exercise these days, I may get a totally different result........partly due to acoustic changes in the room but also because I would probably spend a lot more time on placement, etc.

BTW, ignore the post from the fly speck, no matter how much they fumigate this place DJ just keeps on keeping on

That wasn't my experience, but it's entirely possible, especially with an 87 in less than optimum shape. (You may have a smoking C1 also :))

The one mic I want to try and haven't had the chance yet is the T3. DJL (and others) what's the skinny? How does it fare against it's less expensive counterparts?

The T3 has received good reviews (but I take most reviews with a grain of salt, if you know what I mean)... however, the T3 is PMI Audio Groups top of the line mic at this point in time and Harvey Gerst (who's opinion I respect) is rating the T3 pretty high... so, IMO... the T3 should be worth auditioning. One thing I'd like to know is... what German mic is the T3 supposedly modeled after.

Why does the T3 have to be modeled after anything? It is a T3...end of story.

Alan, mind me asking you a question? It might sound silly, though. ;)

I trust your mics sound excellent (never auditioned one, I have to admit -- shame on me), and you did the recording market an amazing service by offering virtually each musician access to a good-sounding mic. I wanted to give you credit for that!
However:

Why does every mic has to look so stupidly plain boring? I mean, they all look like a metal cylinder with a grill and an XLR connector. How about some innovative design, maybe a weird shape (think of the "Half Moon"), or a stunning paint job? I mean, even the cheapest facets & tabs in my house are "ergonomically designed" and hey, they look good. Doesn't have a recording session (where the mic has a central role) a lot to do with "vibe" and "feeling good"? I am serious about this! If I'd see a mic that I'd love to see AND hear in my studio, I'd immediately grab it!

DJL LMAO. I read somewhere Neumann is considering putting out a mic that should sound just like the T3, only better. Price point should be around $8K

I agree with what you are saying, but, at the time, the design sounded best with the shape it now has. Capsule height, screen material and space around the capsule all have an effect on the sound. It was easiest at that time to simply do what we did. Now we have more engineers on staff and things are changing.

We are working on two new series of microphones where we step out of this design, so in 2005, there will be some very different looking Studio Projects mikes, but for now, what we have, is all we have. Cosmetics are important and we are working on it.

What does "LMAO" mean?

Glad to hear this, Alan, and I look forward to seeing & hearing your new line of mics next year!

I do understand why you had the original design, but being the succesful venture that you are, you should reach the potential of "standing out" and leading the market -- not only by delivering solid-sounding mics to an astonishing price.

I read on the "Why Studio Projects?" page the Studio Projects/797 Audio mics are baised on German design.

Have you looked in the C1 U87 thread with Havey and Ted going at it and etc.

Très intéressant.....

Are these planned to be ready by the first quarter of 2005? If so, are there going to be any sneek-previews anytime soon? And if not...can you give us anymore info on the new lines, or is that still top secret?

just say it OneRoomStudios: you want a "free sample" for testing before it hits the market :D :D
