drossfile,

First of all, don't call fraserhutch a dick. It's uncalled for. He's one of the good guys IMHO.

It may that he didn't understand where you were coming from. It was clear to me that you were simply stating that you are proud of recording decent sounds with the tools you have at hand even if those tools are considered inferior by other people.

Does that sum it up?

ok, fair enough. but you have to admit that not only did he call me "fucking ignorant" but also mocked me with the "sheesh" bit. wasn't that a bit uncalled for as well? oh, the vicious circle of verbal violence! when will it all end??? as far as i'm concerned, he and i are even now. we cursed at each other, and now there is balance in the universe. thanks for sticking up for me, and for him for that matter. if more people around here were like you, we'd see a lot less vitriol and more productive advice. what can i say? i was steamed. so, sorry to offend fraserhutch's delicate sensibilities by calling out an asshole, but for all the negativity spewing from recordingpro, it hardly seems appropriate to attack me...anyway, i'm done with this whole ridiculous thing now. none of it matters anyway. we're all anonymous studio-owners talking on a website for crying out loud. see, this is exactly why i swore i'd never get into this whole online community crap anymore...but sincerely, thank you for trying to be a mediator--you're all right in my book.

You're wrong about that.

Every opinion, bit of advice, or supportive comment does matter.

Egos are tough to deal with. Oh yes. I have a strong ego too, but I learned that it's better to keep it in check as best I am able.

If I am not mistaken, recordingpro(vert) never claimed to record anyone! He did admit that he doesn't have a recording setup. The only claim I seem to remember, is that SP sucks and his mics are better. (duh) Harvey has demonstrated what can be done with the mics mentioned. So, this guy has No recordings, no music, (examples?), no talent (that I've heard) except a foul mouth, no means of recording, no studio, and no professional attitude. What benifit is that to anyone? I would much rather have a real mic, made in China in my hand than a picture of some hi dollar mics in my hand. I believe that is why there isn't any audio examples,, you can't capture audio with a picture!

You guys are hilarious - next we'll talk about who really killed Princess Diana or JFK or maybe some Area 51 conspiracy.

Actually I play several instruments but the studio musos and bands I work with play 10 times better than me and only on ocassion do I lay down tracks for people.

Ha HA well they don't think so - that's why they are in front of the mic and I'm behind it. Now I'm going back to my gin

Well, my links to some mp3's (hopefully) served two functions:

1. It shows people what these mics sound like. People here have heard me talk about 603's, V67's, V69's, T3's, and ECM8000 for a long time, but I've never posted anything to show people what they sound like. I just got DSL Monday, so I can now upload and download stuff without waiting an hour.

2. Most people here haven't ever heard anything coming out of our studio, so I thought this may be a way for people to judge some of my recommendations, and decide for themselves as to whether I (or the mics I recommend) are even worth listening to.

If you think those mp3's sound shitty, well, stay away from those mics, and don't listen to my advice regarding mics. If you like the sound, maybe you don't need a really expensive mic to get a good sound after all.

They did indeed, Harvey!

Thanks for taking the time to provide the links.

well i'm glad you added to the civility of this whole mess. i wasn't dumping on him in any regard other than his complete arrogance towards others, and felt it prudent to point out that we can't all be as professional as he claims to be, yet isn't the whole point of the recording industry to capture music? i'll give anyone with proven ability his due, but this guy is such a jackass about his unproven ability, and he can't even make the music he's supposedly so great at recording! that was my only point, so don't be a dick about it.
FIRST - I did not call YOU fucking ignorant, I called that act of dumping dump on a recording engineer because he doesn't play a musical instrument fucking ignorant. Big difference.

AND AS I SAID _ I AM NOT DEFENDING RECORGINGPRO.

And I still think it is ignorant. Where is it written that you need play a musical instrument to be an excellent recoding engineer? That's what I called fucking ignorant. Not you specifically.

Now, I do get that you're proud of your accomplishments and all, and I get where you're coming from. He's a butt-wipe, and there is no need to defend yourself against him aor let him belittle you in any way. The fact that you felt the need to start a thread to belittle him indicates that you let him under your skin. And why? Has he demonstrated in any way that he's any type of recording authority? Why are you letting him under your skin?

True, but I was not referring to recordingpro. :D

I wish everyone would follow that lead. :D

Edit: recordingpro posted decent info in the other thread, so this is now a retraction.

Maybe it was a higher quality mp3 or band, but I really like that one you put up with vocals done with the T3. Although the thing I liked most about it was actually the guitars

Here they all are:

Spoonfed Tribe

The vocals were all done with the Studio Projects T3 mic. Alex said the drums were recorded with our MXL's.
...........................................
Advent

(That's the Studio Project T3 on vocals.)
...........................................
The Feds
Go to: http://www.myspace.com/thefeds and click on "Saturday Girl"

(The MXL V69ME handled all the vocal chores.)
...........................................
Up The Creek

Not the world's greatest bluegrass band, but they did ok on this song.

MXL 603's on all instuments, except bass. I had the ECM8000 pointed down towards the floor, about a foot out from the bass, with the tip of the mic about even with the neck/body joint. It started out as a talkback mic (since I was close miking everything else to reduce bleed), but the bass sounded so good on the ECM8000, I decided to track with it.
...........................................
Here's a recording I did at the San Francisco AES show to show off Brauner's new mic. This was recorded directly into an HHB CD recorder - no eq, no effects. Of course, having Rick Ruskin playing guitar didn't hurt non either. Straight recording, no punch-ins, no overdubs.

...........................................
Barbara Dane. Had her sitting next to me at the console singing into an MXL V77. Sax was into a Shure SM7, set up as a talkback mic. Bass and keyboards going direct. Some effects, but not much (if any) eq.

BTW, she just celebrated her 75th birthday last year. This was recorded when she was 71 or 72.
...............................................
Studio 54
Here's a few minutes of a club demo. These songs are all copyright protected, BUT because I'm posting only snippets of them, purely for educational purposes, I don't think I'm in violation of the copyrights.

All the vocals were recorded using a stock, unmodified, MXL V67G.
