wow, i started this thread, and as you can see from my signature, i'm not a professional engineer (i know it's a shocking admission). i was just looking for info to corroborate or negate my own research on the vtb-1, and as it turns out, i don't even think i'm going to buy it--i have bigger fish to fry right now (namely new hi-hats to replace my cracked ones). but what i find amusing that no one seemed to notice is this:

so this guy can't even play a note! my guess is that most people on this bbs are recording musicians trying to make cds for their own gratification. this guy could have the recording chops of steve albini, the budget of the saud family, and the equipment of any fine pro la or ny studio. but he can't play! ok, recordingpro, i'll concede that you can probably get a more professional-sounding recording than i can. but somehow, in the past 30 years, i've managed to learn guitar, bass, piano, violin, drums, dulcimer, sitar, and mandolin, and i'm just now getting good at capturing it on media, albeit in a modest basement studio! some day i'll replace my alvarez acoustic with a martin, my aria pro with a prs, my akai with pro tools, and my perception 200 with a u87. in the meantime, i'll sit back and just be happy to make AND record my own music.
sheesh.
