I'd like to record a Vocal and track both sources(Tube Blend + SS) from 1/4 jack to two seperate tracks to my Digital Recorder. Is that Insert 1/4 jack on the back of the chassis the other output?

Yes, yuou would use the insert to get the signal before it even gets to the tube, then you use whatever output you want, either the XLR or 1/4" for the signal with the blend. Pretty nifty! :D

Very nifty indeed. I didnt think much of it when I first saw you explain it,...But after some time to think,...This is a Huge addition.
I cant wait to try this out, along with the TungSol I stuck in there last night :)
Whatz with the small print under the Insert jack(tip=send or something)? And the manual mentioned something about using the Insert for effects??? If that's the case,...If I were to want to use a compressor as a limitter between the mic and the pre for a vocal,...What would be the difference between plugging it in before the pre, and in the insert jack? Sorry for all the questions btw,...I Still cant get over this thing.

The insert tells you what portion of the TRS is what. So the tip is the send portion, and the ring is the return portion, which would leave the sleeve as ground. It is a standard patch cable set up to insert a compressor, reverb, delay or other type device into the VTB-1. All of it is before the tube so no problem there.

Thanx Alan,...
I wanted to use a limitter on vocals BEFORE the preamp to keep a good level without clipping, so I dont think using the insert is a good idea for me since it's after the input. I tried the Tungsol out yesterday on a Distorted guitar I tracked yesterday,...And I liked it Alot,...It seemed a bit Cleaner using the Blend. It still changes the character and adds that "warm air" effect,...But the TungSol seemed to show the change more clearly, if that makes any sence.?
I ended up trying the dual output feature using the insert jack that you mentioned yesterday,...But I was having a problem. Set everything up like normal,...mic - vtb-1 - recorder. Then I tried taking a line from the insert jack to another channel on the recorder. When I did that, the normal output jack stopped sending a signal to my recorder. Only the channel from the Insert jack was now working. And even that,...I couldnt control the Output knob on that channel. Is there something wrong with my unit, or did I do something wrong? Again,...Sorry for yet another question already :)

Sounds like when you plugged it into the console jack, you shorted the insert. I assume you were using a TRS jack, so you need to wire the cable properly to prevent the short.

I would just like to add, alan, to the beginning of his post, that putting a limiter or compressor before the signal even gets to the preamp will effectively make it sound awful, as it's nowhere near line level by that time.

I didnt realize that I described it like that,...I read it back to myself and I sound like an Idiot :)
I ment After the pre and Before the recorder. I was curious what the difference was between running from the pre to the compressor then to the recorder, and from the pre to the recorder with the compressor going through the insert. My mistake.

hey, no harm, no foul.

I hope you don't think I was being condescending or anything.
it's just that there ARE people who will post about having troubles with noise, and then they say they're running mic -> compressor -> pre.... so I just HAD to be sure.
