Hey Harvey, are you saying the newer 603 is brighter than the older 603 or brighter than the mc012, or both? Also, what do you think of the 603 for acoustic guitar?

Possibly slightly brighter than the old units and the MC012 - although I've never AB'ed them.

We have a matched set of four 603's and a matched set of two 603's, but as to which are the old ones, that's a blur. I sent them to Brent when he was still at MXL, and he matched up four for me (all the same), and then two more later (but just to each other). I haven't heard much difference between any of the seven 603's we own, but I haven't tested them against anything else since we got them from Brent.

Depending on the sound we're looking for, we'll use the 603's, the MC012's, the Behringer ECM8000, the T.H.E. Kp-33's, the Shure SM-81's, or the Audix TR-40's on acoustic guitars. Usually, it's the 603s or the Oktavas for overheads.

Sometimes, we'll use the T.H.E. small cardioid for acoustic guitar as well.

I will be posting more here and there. I tend to wait till I find questions that I can answer such as. What does the pop Filter on a C1 do. Or do all C1 Mics come with a case.

Anything of the nature I can answer and I know is correct, I will try to put my info there.

As far as the C4 testing. The part that I did with Brent was. We set up different Mic’s on a stand and recorded me playing an acoustical Guitar. We then compared the sounds of the Mic’s Levels to the C4 until Brent was satisfied with the sound the C4 was giving him. He also did a few tests with Recording the Radio to see what Sound’s he would get

shortyprs and DJL, both the Oktava MC012's and the MXL 603's will be included. The list of mics is here and is updated often with more mics.

We're recording a Small Condenser Mic CD over the next couple of weeks, and most of the small condenser mics on the market will be on the CD.

Can you add a AKGC4000B to the sessions.... Just curious as to why you left out this guy ???

It's not a Small Diaphragm Condenser.

Jarrod,
Way cool, your pretty lucky to get to hangout, help out, and stuff. I think it would be fun. Do you remember what the other mic's were that you guys setup besides the C4's?

Some lucky souls get to have all the fun. Some of us just get to dream and drool!

Sorry, DJL, my placement is just fine, but it still won't equal a 180khz bass rolloff.

No, that would equal turning the mic off. :)

Well, Stefan, I don't know about your system, but bass rolloff is commonly used on acoustic to reduce boom, which is a major issue with my Taylor, and I'm pretty sure my mics aren't turned off.-Richie

Richie relax, stefan was just making fun of your typo. You said 180 kHz in your post - we know you meant Hz :)

Yeah, I don't have any Taylor so I don't know if it's got bass boom all the way up to 180.000 Hz.... but I take your word for it.

I just know that cutting all bass below that would be like turning the mic off.

:)

I know all of us here a really looking forward to when we start testing prototypes for the E Series. We've got some new toys here that are going to be SO much fun to use, especially the DMX-R100. I doubt I'll be able to pull Jarrod off that board for more than 10 mins at a time.

When that board is set up. Im pretty shure you wont get me away from it.

All of these Hyatts keep appearing out of the water works. What gives?

Sorry about the 180khz. It's just that the bees have been complaining about my boomy Taylor.-oops.-Richie
