Howdy!

Finally my drummer came round today with all his equipment, and we did a few tests on drums and acoustic guitar. We had little time, so positioning wasn't great - but here's what we managed to do:

1) Drums - C4's in "Recorderman" positions - into DMP3 --> Lexicon Omega
- Behringer B1 in front of kick --> Lexicon Omega (via Mic input)
- TINY smudgeon of EQ (I may have mixed too much kick into this)

Clip:

2) Acoustic - C4's spaced. One about 5 inches from and pointing at 12th fret
- The other C4 pointing at the body of the guitar - about 5 inches
- Reverb on one track (about half way through the piece)

Clip:

If there is a mixing problem (like too much kick - there was too little on my computer speakers and too much on my big speakers) let me know and I'll try and sort it.

Hope this is of some use to someone :)

Damn. Hmmph they DID work. OK cheers for the heads up, I'll get it sorted ASAP

Links work now. Took a listen to the acoustic clip. Nice sound. In fact halfway through I forgot that I was listening for the sound of the mic. So they got "out of the way" of the music. In my mind that's a good thing.

They sound decent as drum overheads but that is one of the best acoustic sounds I've heard in a while. Outstanding. How much EQ work did that take? What kind of guitar is it?

Cheers guys. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that was pleased :)

The guitar actually has NO EQ whatsoever. I stuck up the mics, moved them a tiny bit and found a wonderful tone. The guitar is a Fleetwood (not sure what model) that I got last year for approx. $250 second hand. It's not a very bright guitar, which I think is why the C4's work well with it.

Thanks for listening :D

Well I stiil can't get to the links. Maybe there is only so much bandwith on that site or something.

Hmmmmmmmm yeah they seem pretty erratic. I wonder if anyone who has the clips has anywhere they could upload? I've spent ages looking around for somewhere :(

NEW LINKS for these files: (I can't promise they'll be way better but if my ISP lets me down one more time I'm gonna ring and give someone an ear-bashing)

Hey CanopuS,

I'm on my third listen...

The Kit
The imaging is really good...
Is the kick the only close mic?
Drum to cymbal balance seems good... although the Snare is too dull for my taste (my preference)...
This should mix very well...
IMO... Job well done...

Acoustic Guitar
Very nice...
Overall balance is pleasing on my speakers and on several head sets
I would cut a bit (~1db and very wide) at ~200Hz though... a little too much pressure there and this will open up the 3KHz range...
I noticed a slight Hi-pitched ringing in the right side...
Again... Job well done...

Sonixx: I'll have the option of using one extra mic (which is obviously going on the snare) - but I need to learn from you how to get a snare sound like yours :) I'll check out EQing the acoustic a bit (and the ringing, which I haven't noticed) Cheers for the feedback

Not a great one (it happens to be my living room). Thankfully its damn quiet. This is kind of what the room looks like (the windows are to the right):

Can I ask why?

CanopuS,

Sounds good man! Is it you playing the drums or someone else? They seem like a very soft player. I'm curious how the mic's would sound in a little more bashing role (not the mic's being bashed but the kit)? What's the "recorderman" confiuration? Is it not XY?

The mics sound fine, but it’s difficult for me to tell much about them without a reference of some sort.

Very nice guitar piece, though! Thanks for posting that.
