Chessrock--

You're recordings sound just like George Martin's recordings at 1/10 the price.

Now, you just need your own minions and you'll be on your way to causing shit everytime someone says something bad about one of your recordings.

BTW, I listened to some of your recordings. I like. A lot of your stuff sounds like you're influenced by TV and film.

Thanks, Steve. I sorta' work in that field, actually, so I probably gravitate towards people who make that kind of music.

Yea, all I need are a few good numbskulls. Maybe I can convert some of the Hyatt guys. They're a pretty dedicated and feisty bunch. They're more like Chessrock guys anyway; got that nasty streak in 'em ya know?

Personal question: were you born an asshole or did it take practice? I mean, really, do you actually contribute anything to these forums? You certainly haven't to this thread.
He practices hard, and has got very good at it :p

He contributes a lot in my experience, you just gotta keep an eye on that SP Tourettes strain of his :)

I suggest we all check out Chesshmuck's website and critique his demo tracks (none of which seemed to have been released on any major label) if for no other reason than to question his own credibility...his act seems awfully tired to me, and I've only been on this website a couple of months...and his comments, though masked in comical tone, have a underlying prejudice that's real low-class...

dude. i dont know who you are buying your crack from, but its gotta be some bad shit. his recordings sound great... i mean, really good. probably one of the best that i have heard on here. im not a huge fan of how they were mixed... but the tracking, its great... dude... its your act thats tired. coming in here and trying to be the boss...

ya know what... just because you have worked in NYC and whatever doesnt mean shit. i've worked in studios in NYC... in a friends attic in queens. dont come in here with a soap box and expect people to listen to you. how about you post some of your sessions on here. and not sessions that you set up mic stands and refilled coffee on, sessions that you engineered YOURSELF. then maybe people will listen to you. i wont... i think your ears must be off to think thats chess's tracks are bad...

I'm waiting for my C1 to be delivered, and I will be recording female vox and acoustic guitar with it. I spent a couple of weeks researching all the mics in it's price range and one review tipped the balance in it's favour. It was from a guy that had recorded a female vocalist that had a strong, folky voice - which is the kind of voice I'll be recording. There's no substitute for trying them out I know, but I'm confident I've made a decent choice. I'll come back and tell you guys what I think when I get some stuff recorded after I have received it. :)

Oh Christ.

Now Hyatt's got his minions after me again. The Numbskull Brigade, Part II.

I find it interesting how the first response to anyone who voices a negative opinon Studio Projects is to immediately attempt to discredit them. The next step is to make sure and start a flame war and trash the thread so people will be discouraged from reading or trusting the comments.

For real Chessrock. If you'll notice, it's always the SP lovers that get their panties in a knot when somebody doesn't like their stuff. Funny that.

Pro studios wanting import SP and MXL? The word 'pro' is just so pliable. Perhaps tell us the name of the studios so we can see their websites and microphone lists.

I went to Chessrock's site and it doesn't look half bad. That's not the point. If you look at this thread and just go back to his first post and every subsequent one, it's all about blasting SP mics and anyone who happens to use them. What's the point in that?

None. I think it's abundantly clear that you don't like the mics. It's abundantly clear that you don't think much of Chinese mics, period. Okay, you've said it. Why beat a friggin' dead horse? You think you're clever, but you're not. You sound like a spoiled little momma's boy.

So, whenever we have a thread on Chinese mics, why don't we simply stipulate to the fact that Chessrock doesn't like them, thinks they blow, wouldn't squat near one for fear of getting his shit contaminated... You've voiced your opinion, so unless you have something of value to contribute, why don't you move on?

bleh.

SPAM: If anyone is looking for a C1, I'm selling one that's been used around 5 times for $170 shipped.

Robgb ...

I like your spirit. You know, I could use a few men like yourself. You seem like a dedicated self-starter. Ambitious, hard working, and very tenacious ...

... basically all the qualities I need in a minion.

Ya see, I'm recruiting minions to come work for me, and I'm scouring the competition for talent. You'd make a welcomed addition to the Chessrock Numbskull brigade. All you have to do is sorta' look out for me on the boards, and when guys disagree or say anything disparaging about me (you could be putting in long hours sometimes) ... start bashing them.

In return, I won't ever insult you, publically. Might send you some cookies over the holidays. That kinda' thing. Whadya' say?

Oh oh oh... I wanna join... this sounds like MUCH more fun than the nice brigade... but do I HAVE to call you Keith? :D

Get back to brown-nosin', kiss-ass. :D

I think this thread is inspiring hostility... or is it the SP mics which do it?

Thank you for so predictably illustrating my point.

rdozz- I'm interested in hearing the comparisons.

I'm not sure on the preamp selection as all I have is a DMP3 and a SP VTB-1.

I also have an SP C1, B3......but have not had a chance to set them up and use them.

Thanks,
Rick

KIDVYBES you just proved yourself as a person with NO real experience. Anyone knows that when you engineer for other people you are there to do what they want, so how can you possibly in a hundred years think that Chessrock would have total control over mixing the tunes that are on that site unless it was his own material? Plus it's only going to be as good as the talent that is PAYING him. If you took the time you'd hear some good tracks on there.

Hey KIDVYBES let's hear your "masterpieces"

This is a perfect thread, I really like it, there's a guy who says he owns a Gefell UM92, Neumann U87, M149 and TLM127, but he doesn't use them because in his opinion the C1 is better.

Then comes Alan with the softdrink analogy, which pisses off brother Chessrock, who get's flamed by a guy who doesn't know shit about Chess, but feels the need to bash him anyway, not doing any homework by listening to Chess' recordings.

Yeah baby, a great thread, what have we learned? Nothing at all.

BTW, the C1 is a very bright sounding microphone.

BTW 2, the MXL V77 sounds very nice om horns, the C1 and B1 don't.

BTW 3, the MXL V69 sounds very nice on trombone and saxophone, the...............

Please carry on guys, but learn to manage your agression against each other.

It's the same thread as the hundred that came before, and the same one to be repeated tomorrow or next week. FWIW, I have a bunch of mics. They all work to some extent or another. When they sound good, I use them. When they sound bad, I switch to another mic. If nothing sounds good, I buy a new guitar.

well you can argue all u want about which is better but u hve to listen to them urself. today i did a recordin at uni and used a c1 for vocals then did another take using my own behringer b1 just for the sake of using it. i found that the b1 whas a much more natural sound.
