Now the only thing I'm really concerned about is which mics to buy (I'll sort that out as best I can) and where exactly to place them. I can't imagine being able to put the monitors down and then have the mics BEHIND the monitors...that would seem to be awfully far away from the children.

Condensor mics will pick them up, I guess, huh? (I've never used a condensor mic before. Could you tell, or did I have you fooled?)

Yes, you'll hear every little noise with condensers but once everything is cranked up and the kids are singing you won't notice.

For mics, why not go with a pair of B1's or a B1 and a B3? Besides, Alan Hyatt his own self responded to your thread. Does Bill Ford write you when the Taurus acts up?

Yes, you did post that site, and I printed that out. Thanks. I'm just concerned about the bleed, is all. I'll try hard to give up the fear.

Yes, I am probably going to shoot for either two B1's or a B1 and a B3 if we can afford that, but my conflict comes from my inner desire for a C1 I think.

I want one of each, okaaaaay??? Just kidding. Well, no I'm not...I would LOVE one of each, but...ho hum. The United States of America doesn't value education all THAT much. If they were to raise my salary to about one teensimeter of a fraction of what they pay Nomar Garciaparra, well by golly I'd buy one of each and a C3 to boot.

I think Mr. Hyatt should send the school, (a 501c-3 non-profit organization ) a B1 and a B3 as a tax deductible donation from his wonderful company. We would put them to great use and we would promise to send him a CD containing the voices of 175 VERY precious little singing children on it for his entertainment pleasure.

Alan, what does "neutral but loads of tone" mean.
Neutral normally means "flatter" frequency response and/or
"transparent" sounding to me.

Just for clarification, the tone means it has a musical sound. I am not sure if you understand what I mean by that, but some mics have a sterile kind of sound, almost un-natural. To me, the B Series have a sound or a tone to them, yet remain neutral. The only way I can describe that is tone, or that it sounds almost musical.

Don't worry if you don't get it, Chessrock will think of something to say...

Just to let you know, we get about 25 of these requests a week, but we also get another 25 from Churches, and about 30 letters from musicians just asking for free goods.

We will be looking into a PMI Audio Group Foundation in 2003. More like the mid of the year, because we are in the process of opening up a new office in Europe.

This foundation will be funded by our sales and we will use these funds to purchase our own goods and give them away to various worthwhile programs. This will be another method for us to give back to the industry that has given us so much.

Unfortunately, it is the lawyers and the accountants that have to put this together. If you can believe it, a manufacturer donated a unit to a School music program. They hooked the unit up wrong, it heated up and caught fire. It burned down the music room and the manufacturer was sued for faulty equipment!!

So, while we intend to set the foundation up, there are legal aspects that have to be overcome....

He means it's warm . . . in a transparent sort of way. Ugly . . . but in a pretty way . . . up, yet at the same time very much down. Wet. Yet a very dry sort of wet.

I rather like the sound of the B1, actually, and I cand kinda' see where Alan's coming from. I think what he means is that it's not as hyped as a lot of condenser mics, but certainly not dull or bland, either.

Thank you all very much...

...for your kindness toward me. You wouldn't believe how much better I slept last night...no headphone nightmares at all! Prior to last night, 40 sets of giant headphones came running after me night after night, and they would tie me up with their multitude of cords, and I'd be forced to listen to 175 children screaming out of tone and tune! Phew! Such relief.

Seriously, I thank you all for your shared guidance and especially for your patience in guiding one who knows so little about these sound issues.

I'm going to record the kids using monitors...and I'll decide on the mic(s) when I'm good and ready! Just kidding. I'll decide when I understand them better. The trouble with the Studio Projects mics is that I cannot try them out anywhere around here, so I'd be buying on blind faith. And while I do indeed have faith, I'm not sure I should be spending the remainder of our precious tiny budget on it!

I sure could use Mr. Ford's E-mail after the Taurus' front bumper decided to drop 6 inches in the middle of the PA Turnpike, but that's another story all together...
