Hi, I have been having some problems with setting up my first home recording studio, but I pretty much have everything done but the studio monitors.

Here is what I have:

Behringer XENYX 1204 mixer (Non FX verison) connected to the PC with Behringer UCA200 USB device. I use Sony Acid Music Studio 7.0a

But when plug in the M-Audio StudioPro 3 Monitors into the tape/cd output and see if i can hear myself. There is nothing but static throug the monitors. When I try out the monitors I unplug the USB device that uses the tape/cd output, If i can get the monitors to work I will use a RCA Splitter on it or use the control room outputs with adatper to RCA.

Thank you for your time

I looked at your monitors and they only have RCA inputs... so you need to do a little deductive reasoning I think.

First, get an audio source that you know is already totally working and plug it into your monitor speakers. Like for instance get one of those cheap cables that goes from a 1/8th inch headphone output to 2 RCA cables... plug it from your ipod or something into the speakers. If it works, you know the problem is in your mixer. If it doesn't work, you know that your speakers don't work and probably need to be returned. Make sure the power and volume are on though lol.

If its your mixer... you're plugging the mixer's tape/out to the speakers? ... maybe double check your manual to make sure you're not supposed to be pushing a button or switch to activate the tape out on that mixer... make sure the master bus goes to the tape out.. uhm... make sure the meters are spiking on the mixer too.

Ok, so I plugged in my ipod into the studio monitors, they worked great.. But I know that my mixer cd/tape output is fine because thats what I use to record with through the UCA 200 USB adapter for Sony Acid and it works fine.
But I did get the Monitors to work when I ran the cd/tape output with a RCA cable to my amp and then went through the headphone plug on my amp to the monitors and they worked. Does this mean the monitors need to be powered because they are already powered monitors, very confused help please haha

Thank you
