Hi,

First post so HELLO!

I have just finished building my studio/rehearsal room. The room is mainly aimed at being a soundproofed room for my band to rehearse in. I have installed enough equipment to allow us to record, but that is a more long term project!.
Anyway down to business...we all monitor through headphones when playing, but so that we can talk to each other between tracks, a 'room mic' would be handy, as not all the band have voice mics.
So what type of mic could i place in the room which would do the job?

hopes this make sense, thanks in advance

Gid

nope didnt make sense to me at all.

do you want to be able to talk to each other between rooms you mean??

No, we are all in the same room, it is just so that we can talk to each other between tracks without having to be stood next to a mic etc....
I am after a mic that will pick up all the voices in the room, that can go through the desk then out to each band members headphones.......

so just to clarify

you want to place a mic in the middle of the room, so that you can hear each other through the headphones?

do you want just one mic placed somewhere key?
will this mic be recording a track while your playing, or will it just be switched on and off in between takes?

what i mean is, its not really going to be ideal to have a mic running to talk to each other while the track is recording.
and its not really needed if theres no track running, as you can just take the HPs off.

i would think it would be much easier to just slip the headphones off in between takes, and discuss what you need to this put them back on when recording?
me personally i take my headphones off every couple takes cause i dont like having them on for long periods of time.

sorry if that doesnt apply to your situation, im just going off what youve told me so far...

id probably use any good quality dynamic mic for what you want to do

like a shure SM57 or SM58
id think that it would work fine for this.

im no expert on this though by far, so hopefully someone with a good knowledge of mics would be able to help you more.

good luck.
