Studio Headphones

Hey. My friends and I have a studio in our garage. We have no control room or stuido headphones, so unfortunately we are forced to record a few seconds of track, listen to its volumes and eq, then change it on the board and do it again. Our solution is to get studio headphones that will block out most of the external sound and just listen to whats being played through the headphones and mix live (like how you are supposed to do). We cant' spend more than $130. Our choices so far are the Sony MDR 7509 and the Sony MDRV700DJ. Any better suggestions. I'll be happy to hear from you guys. thanks

You can't mix with headphones, nor can you make accurate sonic decisions on tone and EQ while tracking....

You absolutely NEED to use monitors....

Just about any of the MDR series headphones will do the job. Since your trying to track and mix in a "live" situation your needs are simple. I would agree with Bruce if you were trying to record in the traditional sense. I gather that your trying to get basic levels and eq for capturing a live performance. Your probably going to get alot of crosstalk between your mic's and obviously your tracks. Monitors in this case would be a bad idea because the mic's will pic up the monitor playback. Monitors for a mixdown would be highly recommended though, but probably outside of your budget at the moment.

Ya, we have monitors, but my situation is about trying to satisfy the engineer who is working the board and needs the sound in his ears.
You guys sure the best ones are Sony MDR series. There are no other brands that are better? Please more replies. Thanks

I use Beyer 770 Pro for remote recording use... good sound isolation and excellent quality....
