I almost have my basic studio set up. I just got the M- audio omni studio with the delta 66 sound card. Its real nice. I have cakewalk home studio for my software. An external hard drive, drum machine and MIDI Keyboard. I hooked up my Mic and recorded it and it works fine. I just cant get my Midi instruments to work. I have a midi cable plugged into my keyboard and it goes into the plug in the back of my computer. I thought since it plugs in then I should have midi interface on my computer. But I'm not sure. Do i need to get something else to use midi instruments? Thanks.

are you using the joystick to midi adapter ?
Do you have cubase ? I could help u out if you do..

I dont have cubase. I have a keyboard with midi outputs and inputs. And its plugged into my pc.

did you make sure the midi in cable is plugged into the midi out on your keyboard ? Where in your computer is it plugged into ? the joystick port ?

yeah my midi in is in the out. And yeah I think it may be plugged into the joystick port. There's no other place it will fit.

hmm im not too sure. So where exactly is it plugged into on the computer ? on the mother board near the sound plugs ?
On a PCI sound card ?
Cause I know the joystick port on the motherboard can be a bitch..
in the control panel under sound and audio devices click the audio tab. Tell me what all the devices are under midi music playback..

For Midi music playback it says:

It is a default device and its called the microsoft GS wavetable Sw Synth

hmm the joystick port is a bitch. I had to download drivers for the midi on my motherboard.. Check your mobo's website and see if there are any drivers for yours.

So I dont have to buy anything else. I just have to figure how to get it all working?

you shouldn't have to. I'm just using the joystick port on my mobo ( iwill kk266-r). THe midi device on mine is mpu-401, and it works perfect. Hopefully u figure it out. If not, those midi boxes are pretty cheap

I have mpu 401 too. But then I installed the delta 66 sound card and I dont see it anymore. It used to say on my recording software that the Midi IN was mpu 401 and the out was the microsoft GS wavetable Sw Synth. Now the mpu 401 has disappeared. so maybe since i got a new sound card the mpu 401 may not work. Or I just may have to find it again. I dont know, Ill just have to try to figure it out somehow.

hmm strange, i think that happened to me too. I also have the delta 66. Try reinstalling the sound driver for your other soundchip, which is probably onboard your mobo.

What other sound card do you have? I know that you have the Delta 66 (which from the web page doesn't have MIDI support). Do you have a Sound Blaster or similar card?

I use Cakewalk Sonar, which is the version up of Home Studio. Under Options->Audio you should have a MIDI tab which allows you to select which MIDI port's you want to use. You should see a port, assuming you use a SB card like SB MIDI Out/SB MIDI In. Make sure that both of these are selected.

Now, when you recorded data select MIDI Omi so that all channels are picked up. Have a go with that and see how you go.

Also, remember that audio travels down one cable and the audio travels down another. If you are using Home Studio, you should be able to use the Edirol VSC to play back your MIDI sound.

Let me know how you go with this or if you have any other questions,

Well the other sound card I have is sound blaster.

Well there is nothing in the input box. Just in the output box. It weird because before I installed the delta 66 it would say mpu-401 in the input box. Now theres in nothing in there. Maybe I just have to install a whole new midi interface. What do you think?

Go into the sound options in Control Panel and under the MIDI tab see if you can see the sound blaster in there.. the one you used to see.

I take it that the hardware is installed and not disabled?

I cant find my original soundcard. Could I of disabled it by installing delta 66? For Midi play back it says Microsoft wavetable GS Sw synth.

Which OS are you using?

Go to the System Properties/Hardware/Device Manager and check under Sound, video and game controllers, see if the sound card is there... if may be disabled... if it is, try enabling it. Then try what I suggested before.

I'm thinkin my midi was connected to my old soundcard and only works with that soundcard. By installing the delta 66, it wont let me enable my old sound card. So I have to get a midi interface. I just need a 1 in 1 out. Would something like the Midisport 1x1 work? Or do I have to buy actual software to have a midi interface?

Check your bios...I recently added an AudioPhile 2496 to my system and it made my factory sound card dissapear...what it does, it disactivates the existing card (integrated on my motherboard in my case). Simply go into your system BIOS and enable audio card.. email me for results/questions...DJRIKK214@aol.com
