gordyzens, can you respond to my question above? I think it may be releveant to solving your problems.
 
Does the "ghost" still happen when you are playing back from the record head, or just when you are using the repro head?

If it only happens when using repro, possibly some crosstalk problem in the electronics from the record head during playback? This is the only logical explanation that I can think of other than print through.

We haven't used it the 820 in a while. I was just killing time tonite and noticed your request. May use it in the near future as we did some tracking with our 827's this past week and the engineer likes to mix down to the 820 for mastering.
 
Studer A820 Problem

I no longer work for the studio. I have spoken with other rengineers and read the replies and come to the conclusion that the chief engineer thought he knew what he was doing when he slammed the meters to +12db and beyond. There was bleed thru from the highly magnetized tape with the +12db slamming.
