Strats Vs Les Pauls

Always got to bandwagon with the Austin Conx. Just about every electric guitar is a derivative. Strat v. LP?? Different tools for different apps. Nuff said.

It is ironic that you can compare THIS to journalism and yet still can't group guitars together into a couple of categories. Not really much room for intellectualism and imagination when conservatism and common sense blots them all out, huh? Maybe I'm a bigot because I take can take the wide spectrum of 6 strings and reduce them to black or white.

But, i see your point. You can go to trajik's guitar store and play every strat they have hanging and see that there are variations in feel and sound and color and options. Wow. You're amazing to have so much insight. I want to be like you. All I need is 45 more guitars and burning need to debunk.

Wow! :eek: Can't we all just get along? :confused: It's too bad that an instrument that brings so much joy to so many players can cause so much animosity. I think that the bottom line is...we all have our preferences and use what suits our styles and tastes. I can look at just about any guitar and find something about them that pleases me but it doesn't mean that it will suit my style or that I would want to add it to my collection. Be it 4,5,6,7 strings etc, whether it looks like a pickle barrel lid (I like that one), a battle axe, or a piece of furniture, it is still a guitar and will make music if loved and played. Play what you like and don't play what you hate. That's it. I'm gonna go kiss my guitars now...but not my strat ;)
 
If'n you really wanna argue, get this for $99, and shove it up the ole pooper....I hear it sounds swell....

Damn this has been fun!! No offense intended friends, just an intellectual exercise... I just happen to be old school and can't get past the fact that these guitars were invented 50 years ago when electric guitars were in their infancy and are still a huge component in the music we hear every day.

Let's face it.. we all love and feel passionate about our guitars..as evident in the posts in this thread.....whether it's the guitar you made back in wood shop in '79, your old Hondo with replacement pick-ups, or your Grandmother's flying V..we love 'em all..

In the studio I will use either/both my MIJ strat and Hamer Studio depending on what fits best. When I go live, I prefer to use my strat because she offers more tonal choises. Another thing you gotta love is the way she snuggles up to you and kinda offers herself to you.....Reminds me of my old girlfriend.....

Sticking to the original thread...

After playing for about 11 years, I couldn't decide, so I made a custom blend w/ Warmoth woods, Lollar/Rio Grande pickups, Schaller tuners etc.

Essentially it looks like a Telecaster, but most all specs are Gibson, the 24-3/4" neck length, the radius, the 1-11/16" nut width, the body is mahogany, though maple neck(Fender), I went Gibson-shaped headstock(looks great on a Tele, kind of like the "snakehead" headstock Leo Fender originally designed for the "Broadcaster"), and the pickups are a Rio Grande Muy Grande Tele neck no cover, and a Lollar P-90/minihumbucker(I switch now and then).

I took my own Fender Vs. Gibson inner battle, and selected elements of each and built myself an "in between"...that's the way I settled it. Sick sounding custom axe. I basically shot for Fender looks, Gibson sound and playability.

Also, nobody mentioned Hagstroms, which to me are also seemingly a 50/50 blend of Fenders/Gibsons, specifically a Strat and an SG.

BTW, yes I purposely narrowed it down to Fender vs. Gibson rather than Les Pauls vs. Strats, as it was less strict, and the thread basically went in that direction anyways...

Mr TTT - when you say maple neck..how 'bout the fretboard..maple or rosewood on the guitar you built, which, by the way sounds really cool man

Oh yeah, thanks I should've mentioned that...it is a rosewood fretboard on a maple neck.

I just had to post on this thread, 'cos the guitar I built was literally a Fender & Gibson "cocktail." I've seen others do it, and even some custom shop, or Artist Series Fenders have similar designs...of course mine is truly custom! I love it...It's my guitar for life.

I've always loved the Fender look, but the Gibson sound and "specs" but felt like playing anything other than a LP Jr. is just a little too superfluous in feel, and I think Les Paul Standards are a little too over the top looking for my tastes. So I "married" the two and now have my perfect guitar.

Warmoth actually made me a 1 pc. solid mahogany body though charged me the regular price(they have a $40 option for 1 pc.) which was a happy accident. I think it's 'cos originally it was on my order, then I changed it, but they must have forgot and only changed the price! Hope there's no Warmoth guys around here... :D

Until my wife bought me my LP 3 years ago,I made a virtue out of getting the most out of cheap workhorses.While I love my LP,I'll never stop looking for the cheap gem to mod,customize and hack to pieces! :D

Sounds like a whole lot of notes being forced together unwillingly. At least the one I heard ( Alien King something or other )
 
but in your defense, it's a whole lot better than what I got on the Net. You must like some Vai, Holdsworth, Yngwie stuff, huh?
