strat clone?

whats a good brand that makes quality strat clones? thanks!
 
Something newer and cheaper--Guitar Fetish strat-like guitars get lots of raves around here. (Xaviere is the brand name.)
 
I don't own one, but some other members around here have had positive things to say about the SX line from Rondo. From what I hear, you may want to replace the electronics, but they certainly look cool and can be gotten on the cheap.

I also recommend a Fernandes from the same era-great feel and action-I use one as my favorite gigging guitar.
 
Rondo's SX brand has better/cheaper strat clones than Fender makes :rolleyes:

I got a p-bass to give to a friend (it was under $200 with hard case). That thing was incredibly nice - vintage tinted neck, nice, solid alder body, good fretwork (looked like hand-finished) and we went to Sam Ash, picked up a MIA fender bass to compare and the SX was at least "just as good".

Stock pickups might not be ideal (but neither are modern Fender's), but that's VERY easy to upgrade (I recommend GuitarFetish).

I'm sure that GuitarFetish's Xaviere guitars are nice, but Rondo is a better deal and looks "closer" to a real strat. I don't like Xaviere's funky headstocks, but that's a matter of taste.
 
I dunno if it would interest you but I bought a cheap Rogue strat for $75 (cuz I really like the neck), replaced the tuning heads with some Sperzel lockers for about $70 and got a loaded pick guard from Carvin (pickups switches etc all wired) for $130 and it's ended up being one of my main axes I play.

Less than $300 and a very nice playing, sounding axe that stays in tune.

Just a thought.

give the musicman silhoutte a whirl..... the quality is stunning and it is their answer to a strat...i got one because i found the strat shape not to my taste for some subliminal reason ...and quite frankly i was blown away by the playability of it.

musicman gear is what fender would have been if leo hadnt sold up.

First of all, no they are not, because people will pay that price, so that's what they are worth. Secondly, you are forgetting something big - when and if you decided to sell it, you will get more money out of a Fender than anything else. That name on the headstock makes a huge difference in the resale value.

there we go again with the "resale value" :)

If the guitar is so good, why sell it? And if the OP is looking for a clone (i.e. can't afford MIA), what does it matter how much money he gets back if he sells it? He can get an axe that'll be just as good as current production fenders and really invest the $800-$1K+ difference or use it for real world expenses.

the resulting guitar might not be worth selling, but it'll be worth keeping.

guitars are NOT investment. just like houses weren't. :D

i'm not talking anyone out of buying fender, but please, buy to play, not to resell.
 
I'm considering buy a rondo strat however if I were to do that I would certainly put in new pups, prob replace the neck, which would lead to having to replace the pots and most likely the tuners. Which is a bit of a project but I could see it being very fun at the same time. If i were to do this, could I get the tone of a nice strat or its just not going to b the same?

pickups/wiring - i understand (and that is both fun and worth the effort), but why replace the neck? at that rate you might be able to just buy a strat body.

I've heard some bad reviews bout the quality of the frets and finishes on the neck. I figure if I did not LOVE the neck I could easily pick up a fender neck on ebay for not too much and throw it on the body instead.
