Strange Recording Noise

So the other day we were recording, and realised there was a strange sound playing in the background of the recordings.
It can only be heard when an instrument is playing, too, so we cant just get rid of the frequencies.

It sounds alien-like, a really sci-fi kind of sound, quite high pitched.

We have tried a lot to get rid of it, for example, turning off the speakers that are attached to the mixer while recording, turning off phantom power, and are lost on what it could be, as it not there the previous day that we recorded.

As we are puzzled by this issue, we thought an experts advice would be helpful.

P.S. The mixer we use the Behringer X2442USB

A bunch more info, as to what you are using the Behri with, and on, would be necessary to even attempt to diagnose the issue.

Can you at least post a sample of the strange sound? :)

I heard a song on the radio yesterday, it sounded like it had a piano in it. Could you tell me what that was?

Seriously rozzy97, we need more info than 'a strange sound' to even begin.

I bet its a component in the Behr electrically vibrating with certain frequencies.

Standard Operating Procedure for noise elimination and signal chain anomalies:

1. Mentally or graphically map the audio chain start to finish, source to monitor.

2. Divide the chain roughly in half, using spare equipment and/or patch cables. Compare one to the other, decide which exhibits the problem/anomaly.

3. Divide the anomalous signal chain fragment in half again, repeat comparison.

4. Continue until the anomaly has been "confined" to a single piece of equipment or cable.

5. Assess probable cause behind anomaly, repair, replace, or adjust offending gear, unless Law of Diminishing Returns prescribes living with the anomaly.

Hope this helps!

P.S...after the procedure outlined above is ingrained, you can streamline resolution in many cases with judicious application of gain.

It's all good now, sample rate was set wrong, clumsy I know, thanks a lot, very appreciated
