Storing Equipments

Hi, guys:

Didn't know where to post this question, so..here it is:

I am gonna be away from about 2-3 months in mid June, and I have rented a storage(non-a/c) for my furnitures and whatnot. Now, I am not gonna be able to bring my PC, moniters, acoustic guitar, mixer, synthesizer, etc with me. So, I will probably have to store them alone with my furnitures.

The storage room is like a grage with a pull-down door, and it's got another storage room above it (it should help from getting too hot over the summer)

Am I taking a risk of damaging my gears? How can I pack my gears for the maximum protection from temperture change, moisture, and whatever I forget to consider?

Any help would be great, thanks

Most things will store well but you can kiss your acoustic guitar goodbye.

I really wish I had a choice, but being in a college town in the summer time is really hard to find someone, who will be able to keep my stuff til i get back cuz their leases end too soon...

If you have no other choice, loosen all the stings on the acoustic and for the love of God make sure you store it in a case (hard shell preferably), and use a humidifier in the case. Of course the humidifier will lose its moisture soon, but it's better than nothing.

Once you do remove the guitar from storage into room temperature, leave it in its case to adjust slowly to room temp. Then have it professionally tuned up and checked. It should be ok.

octoruss's advice is good. All that can happen in a container under those conditions is some possible checking cracks in the finish. Also, store it low to the ground, it'll be a little cooler there.

Pawn it. No, Im serious. Pawn it. In texas, at least, you have 3 months to get it out. You get a loan for 10 bucks for the guitar, and it sits in an air-conditioned vault for 3 months. At the end, youll only have to pay interest on 10 bucks, and you know your gtr will be safe. check with your local pawn shop to see what kind of grace period they have. I used to know a photographer who did this. He lived in a bad neighborhood, so when he left town he would pawn his gear. Thatway, he knew it was safe.

Just be sure and only borrow a very small amount, or the interest will eat you alive.
