Still Vacillating

Ok I'm still undecided about whether to go digital or analog. 'Course I want excellent sound and low noise but I also gotta be able to use the stuff without having to spend mega bucks or time to learn it. I'm thinking about AARK 24. A few questions:
1) If I bought AARK 24 what else would I need to start recording? I have a pent III 450, 8 gig hd, & 128 meg ram. I record each instrument individually but...I'm especially concerned with the drum sound. I use live drums and would like to mike each drum to its own track.
2)Can I mix several tracks to one track while maintaining the original tracks for possible future re-mix? (Similiar to ping-pong with 4 track.) I know you can only playback 8 tracks at one time.

If you're using mikes, you'd need mike preamps as well, Aark 24 doesn't include them (Aark Direct Pro (4 in/out), does though, should be released on nov 20 or so)

Yes, you can store the original tracks. In my (very humble) opinion, I'd recommend you get Cakewalk ProAudio, it mixes tracks to the sound card in real time as it plays back. Even if you only have 2 (or 4 or 8...), it'll mix any amount of tracks to the appropriate output port on the fly.

But yes, you could have yourself a good game of ping pong as well

After going back and reading Newbies and this thread from the beginning I feel Kinda DUMB about these questions. I think I got it now--- I need a mixer with at least 8 outs and no need to mix or ping-pong tracks. That's the beauty of digital DUH! So I'll get aark 24, A mixer, editing & mixing software and VWaLLa! I'm In business. Get your autographs now! Headed for the big time!
