Seller's guarantee states the item must be returned in the exact same condition as how it was sold.

So if you have to break the cellophane seel to test out the tape, it's longer in the same condition.

Did consumer open reel albums go sticky? I always thought they weren't using backcoated tape for those. I certainly haven't had trouble with the ones I have (admittedly a small collection). I have CSN and Live Cream from the same era, they're both polyester, FWIW, manufactured by Ampex. I'd assume 642 for those two.

I see Ampex of Opelika, AL., and I'm suspicious.

I don't have $400 lying around to find out.

If it's well running, sticky-free tape, then it's a real gem.

It's probably fine. commercial tapes were not generally recorded on backcoated sticky-shed stuff. Most likely 300 or 600 series non-backcoated Ampex or similar, but... that price is about ten times too high. I would pass on that. ;)
