Yngwie Malmsteen Is The Best Out Of Everyone, This Topic Is Stupid Cause Its Not Even About Whose The Best, Cause Yngwie Is

He's an Uli Jon Roth wannabee. Uli was doing Yngwie's schtick years before Yngwie even strummed his first chord. When Yngwie's first lp came out someone played it for Uli. Uli's response was something like "You can tell someones been listening to my records".

Its a fact.

Hans Reichal is the Guitar god of 20th century. Check his bad self out at
http://www.uncool.ch/SPONSOR2001/Reichel_I.html and learn something/an approach that is truely new and inspiring.

Sonny Sharrock's "Ask The Ages" has more fire/soul/energy/emotion than all SRV albums combined

If you play guitar, you need to know these two guys!

Thanks for the tips, cap. I always like to hear about new people (even though those clips were like a five year old yornking on a pile of cans with a hammer).

Uli is cool. So is Paco DeLucia.

This thread was a dumb idea. Who cares who the best is? Music isn't a penis measuring contest. If something is good, then it's good. You like it or you don't.

hmm...

This is VERY DISTURBING!!! how can anyone possibly compare srv with Jimi?

To those of you who vote for srv...

McDonalds has got some great job opportunities right now... with great benefits including mental health care.

Also, it does help to explain why "the music" is so fucked up these days.

Granted an opinion is only an opinion but.... this is really pathetic!!!
and hey I like some of srv's stuff.

But to compare him with a ground breaking musician like Jimi is really stupid.

I have an idea for you srv guys... listen to his work, all of it. Really listen to what he is playing ... then tell me how many different lick's he really played during his career?

I know the answer... because I sat next to S.R.V and listened to him joke about it.

He was good, he was really funny, he was very lucky!!! he did die too soon.

But....

He would tell you flat out that Jimi was the man.

good luck,
jfg

I don't understand why you guys get so worked up about this. No one is going to take anything away from Jimi or Stevie. Just 'cause someone prefers listening to SVR's lightening licks doesn't make him or her mentally challenged.

And the reason today's music is so pathetic is 'cause we live in very boring times now, nothing is really happening, and music is not as important as it used to be. (It should be). People today are more concerned about work then play, and they'll listen to whatever music the radio stations and record companies are throwing at them.

I don't know where you live but I want to move there. There's way too much happening here and most of it's bad.

personally after hearing both i think that stevie ray vaughn is a better overall guitarist. I mean sure, jimi hendrix is incredible but i think that he and stevie should switch places. Stevie be #1 and hendrix#2 but thats just me.

Vaughn was just a good imitator.
i mean.lis10 to most of his work..can you identify the Sound ?
aammm... is't it Jimi Hendrix?

you can lis10 to Vaughn Music all day long, ther is nothing new in his Music as a matter of fact.

as for Jimi Hendrix..34 years after his Death,Jimi is on top the 100 floors building, and ther is no one underneath him all the way down..
actually..ther is no Guitarist at the same neighborhood.

I believe a Mr. Eddie Van Halen is on the same floor as Jimi Hendrix, they both reinvented how a guitar was played and what you could do with it. I have a weird feeling not that many people will agree with me on this.

I agree about EVH from a technical standpoint. He is a monster guitarist and very creative. But none of his music moves me on an emotional level. I never took him that seriously or listened very closely. I don't know..........hard to explain.

Plus his music was a bit cheddery. I agree that hendrix had more soul in his playing.

Let Down

Well, this saddens me, that so many people have the ignorance to compare the 2 together. If they were both alive today, and playing on the same stage, they would both look at each other in awe... If all Stevie did was "copy" then nobody wouldve ever noticed him, he wouldnt have been so big, Drugs? Hell yeah he did um, they both did um, SO WHAT? Who didnt? Point is, Stevie was in real tight with just about every blusman alive in his time, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, BB King, even people like Jeff Beck all listened to SRV play and were floored with every note. SRV was one of Jimis biggest fans, so he would be pissed to hear you comparing them anyhow. I am with you in the respect that Jimi was a god...he still is, I listen to the both of them everysingle day of my life since grade school anyways. But it really makes no sense to try and compare them. SRV not original? Then that would make Jimi a copy cat for even picking up a guitar, there were guitar gods before him too, but you dont mention their impact on Jimi, just try to hide your lack of musical understanding with this ridiculous comparison, thanks..bye PS.Jimi, SRV, I love you both, and I apoligize for some of these guys on this thread.....they have lost sight of the big picture.

JIMI- transcended genres, changed the way the instrument was played and died way too young. He had many gifts left.

STEVIE-cokehead wanking blues soloist who at the end of his career pretty much said what he had to say. JUST SAY NO, BROTHER.

This thread blows. I think if they were both alive they'd probably be pretty good friends. They wouldn't sit around and argue about who is better or more creative or bla bla bla. There are too many things to appreciate from both of these men to just simply state who you think is better. Thats a waste of what they gave us and a slap in the face if you ask me. Just put the fuckin record on and shut up

*SIGH*

Well I am suprised this thread actually got this many posts.

I like Live at El Mocambo. He's got the same facial expressions as Jimi.

In The End

Ya know, I apologize for even posting on this forum, dont know why I did it, I suppose boredom? Im gonna leave you my final and humble thought....Supreme Greatness, cannot surpass. Supreme Greatness.

Now im going back to my Hendrix DVD in ther other room......rok n roll

Surely when you talk about these types of player it's not really a question of the best? They're just different and who you prefer is pretty subjective.

Personally I prefer a guitarist who can put a bit of heart and soul into their playing as opposed to someone just trying to squeeze as many notes as possible into every bar.

Few comments about Artist Comparison...

Jimmy and Stevie: Steve was influenced by Jimi and loved his stuff. I wouldn't compare Stevie to an artist that he loved. Nevertheless, I own albums by both and enjoy their music. Personal Note: Stevie was known for going in the studio with old dirty strings and recording tracks off-the-cuff and quickly.. not paying any special attention to details. I dunno.. makes me smile thinking about the dirty strings. (Bluebear would have made him change the strings I bet)

Eddie & Yngwie: Yngwie was 15 and working as an apprentice luthier in his hometown back in Sweden when he heard some song from the first VanHalen record on the radio. Yngwie was slightly influenced by Eddie and has admitted that in the past. (Any of the fingertapping crap that Yngwie does is obviously ripped off from EVH) Yngwie is also friends with Uli Jon Roth and has a custom "Sky" guitar that Uli built himself and gave to Yngwie as a gift. I've got albums by Uli and it appears that Uli has heard a few classical records. (See where I'm going with this?) Eddie Vanhalen said that he got his fingertapping idea at a Led Zeppelin concert. He saw Jimi Page doing hammer-ons up and down the neck and when he got home he decided to take it to another level and use his right hand to "tap" along with it. Jimi Page has been labeled the biggest thief of American Black music in history.

Final thoughts -

I was never heavily into VanHalen. The only thing I really like about Eddie is the 5150 line of amps. Peavy sucked till that one came along. (I bet sombody agrees with me on this one) I will admit that I own several VanHalen records but it wasn't because of Eddie's guitar playing. I listened to VanHalen back "in the day" because they were a popular and fun band that everyone seemed to be listening to. If you didn't like Vanhalen.. at least a little bit you simply weren't cool. You could get piss drunk listening to Vanhalen. If you had a girl with ya and if she liked Vanhalen.. you most likely were gonna get laid that night. I still remember when 1984 was released and all the hardcore VH fans were pissed off. "Eddie sucks!", they'd say. It was because he was playing keyboards and made some comment in an interview somewhere (Circus magazine perhaps) that he was tired of guitar and wanted to explore keyboards a little bit more. It had something to do with that Eddie played piano or something before the guitar... not sure. All I remember is that the diehards hated "JUMP" and felt that Eddie was sellin out. They wanted more "Edge" from Eddie instead of that bubble-gum pop music. Now that I think about it.. 1984 was the album that started to bring more chicks to the shows. Besides, David Lee Roth was a "hottie" to them back in the day. Nowdays he looks like the Crypt Keeper. VanHalen videos were always fun to watch and Eddie seemed to always be having a great time. It was only till the mid-90's that we realized Eddie was piss drunk ALL THE TIME back then.

Yngwie: Released a ground-breaking album in 1998, which was the Concerto Suite. He should honestly dump the rock band and stick to Concerto's which are more befitting for his playing style. Anyone out there feel Yngwie plays too many notes? Listen to Al Dimeola's song "Racing with the Devil on a Spanish Highway" which is from the mid-70's. His runs in that song sound alot like the ones Yngwie plays "all the time". You know the Yngwie runs... you can't miss em! (They are all over the fucking place in every song) Coincidence? Nope! Dimeola influenced Yngwie as well.

.. and well.. then there's Jimmy and Stevie. The whole reason we are reading this thread. There's a reason I listen to many different kinds of music, much who are influenced by each other or the current "scene" at the time in that particular decade.

Trying to pick apart who is generally "better" is like debating how time began, or if life exists somewhere a trillion miles out in space.. near another sun in some distant galaxy.

We would all be dead before we would ever find a genuinely conclusive answer that everyone would agree with.

I been playing around a long time and don't give a shit bout that, I am sure Stevie and Jimmy are getting along just fine bout this point in time if they have one.
