stereo micing??

i want to record my entire band, i have a presonus firepod, for the drum overheads, would it come out any different if i just used one of these -> http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/5/0/5/246505.jpg ,and just ran my 2 overheads (sm81) into that,and then tha into one channel in my firepod, rather than taking up 2

It looks like that cable would just combine the overheads into a single mono signal. You wouldn't be able to split it back out to stereo for mixing.

That won't make "stereo". You'll capture two microhpone sources and sum them onto a single input. I can only imagine what happens if mic placement and phasing become an issue. You also won't have any way to control the individual micrphone levels.

I suppose there might be a use for something like this but I can't think of it right now.
