I am currently using an AT4040 large diaphragm for nylon string guitar recording. I want to get a second mic so that I can record in stereo. I am debating on whether to get a second AT4040, or whether to get an AT4041 small diaphragm mic to use as the second mic.

Opinions?

I think it depends on the setup. For XY configuration I'd use the same mics. However when for example one mic sits at 12th fret and another is pointing at the bridge I might choose different microphones.
Do you like the sound of 4040? Do you have to tweak the eq hard?

For stereo both microphones have to be exactly the same.

With the one exception of an MS recording where you have a fig.8 for the side and your choice of pattern for the mid.
