I believe that intentional Ray. The real vocals being done again soon. :thumbs up:

This is the mix we're going to record vocals over. I've left a trace of the scratch vocal in there for referencebut it's very very low in there.

Had a quick listen on my phone and it sounds great on there (with earbuds) :thumbs up:

I'll be back in the morning for a better listen. Snookers on at the mo. :laughings:

WOW
There's a thousand "how does he get it to sound like that" questions crammed into my mind!
***&ing great sound with few instruments played in laid back style

VERY nice work Steeno

We should have a HR radio channel thread so we all could listen to our favs from everybody?
There's some seriously good songs/people on this site! :listeningmusic:

What a reaction! Thanks very much, man.

That's a pretty cool idea. I have a few favourites from guys on here that I listen to regularly.
Maybe a submission streaming thing and if you get fewer than X listens per month you're out, or relegated to a backlog?
It's just be Greg, Rami, and Heat (paper cup) on repeat. :p :p

Inspiring work. So he plays guitar and sings into his phone (hopefully at a fairly steady tempo) and you build all the virtual instruments and beats around that?

You obviously have a lot of talent. I also like his singing and song-writing.

Yeah, that's it. Although he does it with no regard to tempo.
I make the decision to either conform the demo track to a fixed tempo or to create a variable tempo map to his demo.
On this occasion I chose to just stick at 78 BPM throughout.

Usually it's virtual drums and the rest is (mostly) acoustic, but with this particular track there's a lot of virtual instruments going on.
I talked about trying to 'keep it real' earlier in the thread, but I'm not sure that it would be of much benefit now.

Thanks very much, Jamie. Much appreciated. :)

Very nice tune. On my system the kick was pretty pronounced. I have to full stereo JBLs with a sub for your reference. I didn't hear anyone else mention it, so might just be my system.

Really good tune. I am a big fan of words hit with the drum beats on 8th and 16th notes and then how he holds it. Good song, good recording, good mix, nice job. You guys should be proud of that project.

This would go on the best of HR song thread. @ Mods, you guys should look at starting one and you all would determine how they make the list. Would be cool.

Hey, thanks for the kind words, DM.
I'm sort of half glad you brought up the kick. I intentionally kept it very loud because I thought it added to the obvious pop-appeal of the thing, but I did wonder if it's a bit much, in the verses at least.

I'll maybe look at bringing it back a bit in the verses and first half of the short build up.

Once again, thanks man!

PS.If any of you guys happen to be writing a weak teen-aimed sitcom called 'All These Things' in the style of the OC or something, and need a theme tune, don't hesitate to drop me a PM. :p :p

I really like the song! Great vocal performance. I will aspire to this!
Great lyrics--ring true and original.
I thought the kick drum was a little too loud in the beginning.
It would be nice to have some female voices in the chorus.
But so great! Congrats!

Ah, you're so right! I sung the highest harmony a major 2nd lower than the song and then pitch shifted it up which makes it sound a little feminine but real female vocals would really add something, in my opinion.
I'll maybe ask around and see if anyone I know knows a female. :p

Thanks for the listen and for the compliments.

I listened yesterday but got carried away with Cat drama and Vets. So I'm back.....

I think it sounds awesome mate. The first thing that struck me was the kick but I see what you are aiming for and it works for me. The vocals are great. Pete's got a fine voice! Mix sounds great, can't find any fault with it personally.

The only thing I would've done differently would be the bassline, as you probably know by now, I like a good strong, melodic bassline. But what you have, suits the song and works.

Top drawer :thumbs up:

Shame about Ronnie last night :(

Ha! Yeah, I guess that's the niche here, isn't it?

I'm listening now to the latest version. Pretty damn slick. It sounds great. I agree with the person who mentioned the kick was just a bit too much. I think it should be exaggerated a bit in something like this, but I think it could come down a tad and still serve that poptastic purpose. Not my thing so much aesthetically, but I really admire the process you guys used here and the end result is pretty polished sounding. Nice work Steen.

Well, I was already going to take a look at the kick but that's a good few more comments now. I'll definitely be re-evaluating it now! :)
Thanks for that folks.

Clean - Funny you should mention the bass. That's one of those things I said was a placeholder and would be replaced with a real bass.
I'm still in two minds but something told me it might not matter.
There is something about a nice full real bass sound though.

Who knows.

I think Pete's keen to do a video for this song so production might go stalemate for a week or two while we think about that.
Ordinarily I'd be racing to the finish line for release, but this wont be released until the video's ready, I guess.

Thanks for the continued comments and suggestions folks. It's really appreciated!

I think I'm listening to the latest version. Very good. He writes great songs. Your recordings are worthy of his songs. I've got no suggestions for improvements, it's radio ready.

If he ever finds his way to Austin, let me know, I'll come see his show. You better be there, too!! :)

Thanks so much Chili! Let's hope the good folks at the BBC think so too. :p
Although I still have to come up with some kind of intro, I reckon.

Cheers man. :)
