Well, since Jim has thrown down the gauntlet, I bounced all the raw tracks out of my session and pulled them into a fresh session to make sure they were cool.
Instinct kicked in and I start mixing from scratch, rather than as I track (which i should always do, in fairness).
Somehow I had no idea that the other mixes were harsh and squashed!!!
