static and hum"

On my settings for recording if i select the 20db gain i get a bunch of static and humming behind everything is there any way to take the noise out? If i uncheck the 20 db i get a much cleaner recording but low record levels....

M<y compressor includes a noise gate. When I use my ART Tube MP or Dual MP, which can be noisy at higher gain levels, I use the gate on the compressor to reduce the background noise that's below a certain threshold. That way the signal only goes through when it's abnove the level I specify (IOW when the signal I want goes through).

You may also be able to do that in software atfter you track, depending on what software you have. In fact, if I remember correctly the n-Track compressor has a noise gate built into it.
