Im a young music producer who isnt really into going to pro studios and paying money for studio time. I want to build a little in house studio in my bassment. It will just be to record rap and r&b and some times free styles. What all do i need(equipment wise) before i can start recording. I dont really need the most expensive stuff i just need enough to start recording.

A little soon to be billing yourself as a music producer when you're not even wet behnd the ears yet, don'cha think????

Holla @ me when you put out 3 full length albums out in 4 months, BUT NE Wayz does aanybody have any comments on the 1st post

By "full length albums" do you mean cds that are sold in stores, or multi colored cdrs out of the trunk of you car at a Taco Bell? As far as your question, since you have been in a studio, then you obviously have seen the basic essentials of recording equipment that you need. You will need similar tools as what you used in the studio. You need to be a little more specific about what you are looking for and what kind of budget you have.

need more specifics...

Hey Bruce, I'm a mastering engineer because I said so...:p :p

Like JBlount said, you've got to be more specific as far as how much cash you have to work with and what type of environment you're going to be recording in, apartment, house, (basement),barn, and what dimensions do you have to work with....

all i really n do i need to know is what do i need to start recording

well, you need atleast one good mic, some kind of mixer/ or preamp,if your going to use your computer than a good soundcard, pr. of monitors or headphones, some kind of recording device if your not going to use a pc,etc....

I love it when guys call themselves producers. I work at a pro-audio dealer and we get 'producer' calls all the time. Whenever someone calls themselves that, we know they don't know shit. They're usually too lazy to learn the gear to engineer and not talented enough to be a performer. This may not be the case here, just making a general observation.

I'd get a large diaphragm condenser, probably a cheap one like a Studio Projects C1 or B1. Assuming you have a computer, I'd get the MAudio Firewire 410 to get the signal in to it. Then a good set of headphones, the Audio Technice ATH-d40FS have good bass. That would be a good start. Of course, you'll need a stand and cable for the mic. And a pop filter would be nice.

I picked up one of those the other day. I added it to my arsenal of mics. I love the keychain option, it makes it so portable. And yes I am a producer too, because I said so also!

Michael,
That unit is ok, but the speaker setup is mono. I think for $10 more, Radio Shack has a better one, per their specs, that states 5hz to 40Khz professional quality sound reproduction and has 2qty 1/2" speakers for STEREO.

IMO...only.
Inputrs are like assholes everyone has an opinion.
