first i gotta say 'whats up, every1' cuz this is my first post here....
here's the deal... i have been in serious bands before and we've recorded a few cd's, but i'm ready to ditch everything and set up my own studio...
for a computer i'm ready to spend $1000 ... i already have a monitor, mouse, speakers and all that stuff.... $1000 will go for the tower with all that little elecro stuff that goes in it: hard drive, sound card, EVERYTHING ELSE which i don't know much about....
our curent guitarist has a studio and he payed $650 for his computer and it's a deacent computer, but he says that with $1000 i can get the stuff that's gonna allow me to record like up to hundred tracks and run quite a few effects on them and my computer will still be able to play every track... ( i only need around 15 - 20 tracx at the same time i guess ) ( i don't know, i guess his shit couldn't handle it or something )
he says there's this store that will buy all the parts ( at wholesale price ) and then put the together for me, and my budget is $1000... i wanna go to that store but i don't know what to ask for...
- i know i need a sound card ( i don't know what kind or size, color or taste, but i know i need one )
- i need a DIRECT BOX i guess, cuz that' where your cables go to or something...
- fast computer with lots of memory
- i know i need some MIDI device, like some kind of MIDI RECEIVER or something, i think somebody mentioned something like that...
what else?
now i already have PRO TOOLS and i know a guy who can show me everything about that, cuz he teaches recording at local college, he's really smart i guess, he recorded one of our cd's... i'm going to use a bunch of midi instruments, mainly keyboards and drum machines... i make industrial music, something like nine inc nails...
i can shred on guitar like crazy, but i really don't know anything about recording..... what else do i need and how much does it cost.... we're talking about computer only, i already have a PA system, guitars, bass guitars, amps and mics.....
