Standalone vastly superior to Firepod amps?

Would a standalone preamp for around $200 be worth getting to run into my Firepod?
 
Depends on the pre. I don't think it's a question of better, but perhaps it'd be more like that $200 pre is going to be different than the Firepod pres.... But like I said, it all depends on the specific model.

I owned and used a Firepod last year...you're not going to get a pre that's gonna make much of a difference in that price range over the pre's in the Firepod. I found the pre's in the Firepod very usable - are you not liking them for something in particular that you're trying to track?
 
No, they are doing fine. I just want to know if I'm missing something...
 
You're missing out on valuable time you could be using to record! ;)
