ssl 4000 question

before i ask ill tell you a story so you will know how newb i am.

i was recording my guitar through my amp with a sm57. i could not pan the tracks (pan left it got louder and right i lost sound totally). after a little research i found that it was because when i started a new audio track i started it in stereo instead of mono.

now having said that im trying to use waves ssl4000 plugin and when i go to add the EQ or compresstion i get 2 options. stereo EQ or the other option.

can some one please take the time and explain what to use and the differance.

What's the other option? Mono? Choose mono. If you choose stereo, your converting your track into stereo, which will cause you not to pan like you stated before.

Why would I bash you? haha It's a good question. I asked the same question when I first got into audio. There are some jerks here though.

Depending on your DAW, you can create a mono track and move the audio to that. Then insert the mono version.

On a stereo track, you will probably have to use the stereo version of the plugin, it kind of depends how your software handles the mismatch if you use a mono plug on a stereo track.
