SR16 or Zoom 234 ?

I am looking to pick up a decent drum machine for laying down a drum and base track and was looking at the SR16 and the Zoom 234. I know that the SR16 has been around a long time but does anyone know much about the Zoom 234, bad or good?

Do you think its the way to go?

I think the day of the SR-16 has come and gone. I would go with the Zoom 123. It's cheaper and much better than the SR-16.

I now own Both.

Hi GT thanks for the input but is the 234 worth the extra $50.00.

I personaly prefered the 123, it was more compact, cheaper, and the pads were closer together which means less hand movement. Less hand movement means you can get to the pads faster.

I think it will be up to you, but I like the 123 better.

I agree with GT. I don't even know anything about the Zoom boxes, but the SR16 sucks IMHO. I have one and am not happy with it. My main gripe is that I cannot trigger anything more complicated than 8th notes into it because the trigger pads just suck big time. I'm not talking quantization either. As GT said, it's day has come and gone, and I think the newer boxes out there have more to offer. I am solving the problem by getting my nephews Tama kit and building my garage studio around it :) Now I'll sell ya my SR16 cheapo so I can buy a couple of used 57's!
 
I have used the 123 and have to admit that I am pretty impressed. It will also do bass and some of the bass sounds are pretty convincing. I believe that most of the $50 difference is more sounds on the 234...
