I just read where George Martin would give certain elements in a mix a dose of compression to tighten them up or "splatter" them. A good example of this that i can think of would be the drums on Strawberry Fields which I think is one of the best sounding drum mixes ever IMO.

Is anyone familiar with this and how to achieve it with compression? Like settings..etc. I am using the Renaissance Compressor plugin in Pro Tools LE.

If you drop the threshold real low, say -35db, a 6 or 8 to 1 ratio, attack not too fast for drums - say 5ms, a quickish release say 50ms and wind up the makep gain, you'll get the drums pumpin and sizzlin.

Not sure if that's the effect you're after tho
