its true.. I know those guys.

But your comparison of a Jazz musician to a classical musician is like comparing someone who uses an Analyzer WITHOUT monitors to someone who uses monitors WITHOUT an analyser (like me.) To be Fair.. you should compare a Jazz musician WITH classical training (like Wynton) to a Jazz Musician WITHOUT classical training (I cant think of one...)

clearly..

In all honesty, I don't recognize any of these points as something i was trying to either say or imply. But it's possible that this thread has drifted and mutated to the point where i don't even remember the original question! Maybe it's time to let it die a peaceful death. I think I might have made a relevent point or two somewhere along the line, but i wouldn't swear to it!

Crosstudio, I use the SpectR-Pro too and it is a very quick way to identify problems on individual samples and the overall mix.

The only thing I record live is bass, elect. guitar, acoustic guitar, and vocals. These become easy overtime to refine by ear. However, I rely heavily on samples and soundfonts for piano, synth, percussion, strings, bass lines et al. Samples, soundfonts and synths vary widely in their frequency response and without the SA I would be spending a lot of time sound shaping these to fit in the mix.
