ok from what i gather, the computer that i want to turn into a recording machine is a gateway, pentium III 500MHz, 64 megs RAM...
I am planning on buying the Delta 44 soundcard and a larger HD (around 4 gig).
I am planning to use Cakewalk or N-Tracks for my recording software...
Does anyone have any recommendations before I start buying?Should I upgrade my processor or RAM first? I only want to be abvle to record 2 tracks at once for now if that matters... I swear I am like a child when it comes to patience.

ok it was easy to find out on my own...

I think i am going to upgrade my computer now...
what do you think is the possibility of keeping my "case" or chasis,
and getting a new processor (1.2 GHz), RAM (256MB) and hard drive..
also what is a EDIE/Ultra DMA(7200 RPM) Hard drive compared to an regular old 4 Gig HD.
Anyone know of a good place online to pick up all of this stuff?

keeping ur case is a good possibility... just make sure ur motherboard factor is the same as the previous (ATX or baby AT).... all the stuff ur planning to get will be MORE than enough to record two track at a time... and someone asked me this before about the hard drive.... what the difference im not sure but it will definately fit into ur new pc... and go to www.tigerdirect.com to pick that up... also look for barebone systems u get get a good one AMD athlon 2000+ with case power supply (dont think ram though) for about 250.... look at the site, theres lots of goodies there

Your Mobo may not support a 2gig CPU if its an older model...may want to check the specs.
256 ram is minimum, try to go with 512.
EIDE at 7200 rpm is a faster drive with faster seek and transfer.
A 4gig drive is very small and virtually obsolete...get a 40-60gig for starts.
