I can't listen right now because I'm on my way out the door, but I saw your thread sinking without a response, so I figured I'd give it a bump. I'll be back later and don't worry, I won't let it disappear into the wilderness of page 2 and beyond.

Don't worry Ecktronic.....I'LL SAVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course it will NOT disappear into the wilderness and beyond!!!!
I just love to Bump!! :D But you did saving RAMI. I just came in right after you did. :)

I am listening now Ecktronic.

That is a very pretty song. Is this you performing Ecktronic?

As far as mix goes, I am not too sharp....yet.

It's a beautiful song ecktronic. I can hear you. I'm just listening on desktop spkrs right now, but the vocals are just right, to my ear. The guitars sound a little overprocessed to me, but they still create a good sonic bed for the vocals.

Tim

I heard the vocals and immediately i thought to myself ...he's scottish and i was right ....

Yeah i love the song ....i though the backin vox and lead vox get a bit tangled up in a few places ...i'd also like the vox turned up a wee bit ....but thats just me

love the song though ....sung with a lot of passion which really comes across ...

lovely guitar work .........i think the guitar harmonics at 0:31 was a wee bit out ...but maybe thats just the way its meant to sound ... :)

EDIT: i changed my mind ... i think Tim was right the guitar sounds a bit over processed ....if they were less wet then the vox wouldn't need turned up ....but thats just my opinion

Very nice tune for sure. Like Tim, I find a little too much reverb on the guitars, but it does suit the spaneyness and mood of the song. I love the way the secong verse overlaps the chorus with the vocals. Very haunting tune...well done.

Anyone have any idea why its a special mix?

You've been taking cues from True haven't you?. I'm telling you! Mixing in your underwear is a bad thing!

All kidding aside, it sounds like you got yerself a new interface judging by the other tracks on you site. Just sounds like you had a lot more headroom to play with. Bah. Just taking stabs in the dark.

If I boost the high end by 24 dB I can hear an otherwise subliminal "Do You Want to Know a Secret" by Lennon/McCartney playing backwards far in the background.

You witty devil.
Tim

The amazing thing about it is that "Do you want to know a Secret" is a George tune. But that's what makes this a "Special" mix. It's got John and Paul singing a George song backwards.

Nice one.

All beatles aside, i liked the song.

Good job.

Nice tune...really.
So....what's the "special mix" secret?

There is a beatles song mixed backwards way in the background.

Firstly thanks alot all for the good words. Too start, i see what yous are saying about overprocessed guitars, but i feel that it fits this tune well. As Rami said a kinda spaceness. It was the certain sound i was going for to suit the mood.

The main vox are distorting at points and because this was recorded on a shity cheap dynamic mic (guitar also!) in a bedroom (with television spill!!), the singer (not me, i wish!) backed up away from the mic so the room spill got a bit much and killed the nice sound of the vox. That is why the main vox doesnt sit so well at times.

OK, NOW FOR THE SECRET youv all been waiting for.
I cant do multitrack mixing on my computer since it doesnt have enough processor power or RAM or something. So what i had to do was guess the effect settings for each individual track and process them seperatley in Wavelab! Then i took the processed tracks into a montage in Wavelab to set the levels and automate the volume! Not the conventional way of multitrack mixing but it seemed to do the trick.

Are yous serious when yous say this?
There aint no other song mixed in the back ground and especially not backwards!!
Any song in the background would be the spill from the stereo or television playing in the next room!

Equipment used:

Boss BR1180 home recorder.
Cheap nasty dynamic mic.
I took headphone out from the BR1180 and individually recorded each track into Wavelab using a guitar cable straight into my SoundBlaster Audigy 2!!

Crazy eh!
If you listen carefully you can hear noise, which some of made for a nice smooth sound! interesting how noise can make a recording better. Kinda like tape.

The wee bits that sound out of time are either the playing or maybe slight sync problems from recording into Wavelab.

Cheers all id better stop writing as ive been going on.
:)

Oh...yeah...there it is. Tim mentioned boosting the upper frequencies by 24 dB and I couldn't hear it. So I boosted them by 120 dB and now is all fine.

What?...did someone say something? :D

Well, it was me who said the Beatles song backwards thing, and no, I wasn't being serious. If you boost the high end by 24 dB you can actually hear anything you want to in the background. I actually believed it was aliens speaking, but I thought the Lennon/McCartney song title was more fitting to the situation. To the best of my knowledge George Harrison sang it but John wrote "Do You Want to Know a Secret".

Good sound you got for the gear used! Way to go Eck.

Tim

Ha sometimes i dont know where i get my gullable stupidity sometimes!!
Thanks Tim, yeah im pretty pleased with the results from my bad gear.
But seriously i can hear the aliens now!! Their after me! ahhh.

Yes, it is difficult sometimes, so you are not that gullable. In fact, you cannot be "gullable". That word was removed from the Webster dictionary last year.
