Ok, I know it doesn't sound good...in anyway..my left monitor expands when I turn it on. If I mess with the volume it does it too and goes down. I turned it off, messed with the cables a bit and it still did it. so i haven't done anything else. Did my monitor just die? It is going to expand so much it ruptures? What is going on? This really saddens me if it is burnt. It seems to be a power supply issue, does anyone know what this could be? I am cluesless...:(

You have a DC voltage mixed in with your normal signal from the power amplifier - THIS IS NOT GOOD!!

It will fry your speaker. Don't use it again until you get the amplifier fixed.

what he said... dont use it that way... looking for trouble...

So can I take the speaker to a music store to have it fixed? Why did this happen? Is it just the speaker going bad? Just curious as to what could have led this malfunction. Thanks for the feedback, hopefully I didn't fry it as it has not been turned back on since I saw what was happening.

The throbbing is caused by the amp, not the speaker; speakers only move in response to any kind of signal; no signal, no movement. Somewhere in your chain, up to and including, the amp that drives the speakers, there is an unwanted signal being generated. It could be DC from a bad power amp, or DC somewhere in the chain before the power amp.

Are these self powered speakers, with a built-in power amp?

It is a built in power amp. These are 4 year old Samson Resolv 65a monitors. I wonder if I could get the power amp replaced. I hate to be so wasteful. Is that how long monitors last? I called the music store I bought them at and the guy said 4 years is actually pretty good lifespan. Is he saying this because they are not very high end speakers? I can't believe 4yrs is a good lifespan for monitors...

Call Samson (631-784-2200); ask for their service department. Tell them what you have (Resolv 65a) and explain the problem (cone popping out when unit is turned on). Ask them what you should do next.

though it's not likely... if ya want to find out if it's occuring before the amp just pull the output from the soundcard/interface and ground the pins... if the bulge goes away it's coming from somewhere more up-stream...
