Speakers for Mixing

I was wondering if someone could help me find so speakers, specifically for mixing multi-tracked recording. What type of frequency response is acceptable? Can I buy a decent pair for under $500?

I don't have an amplifier. I will be coming out of a Consumer Sound card.
