I've been messing around with my mic and my interface and my software for awhile and no matter what, the playback is away really crackly and just..awful quality. That being said, the speakers on my computer are well...pretty awful. They are little 3 inch box speakers that hook up the another box that sits below the computer desk and control them on and off. They are the speakers that came with the computer and I've never really had reason to go get new ones. They play regular music fine on them...but I'm just wondering if they could be a possible reason for all the crackly noise?

can you list your signal chain?
What is your mic?
interface?
software?

Signal Chain...No idea what's meant by that. (Newbie name is well deserved here.)
Mic-AT2020
Interface-US-122
Software-Cubase LE that came with the interface.

I will say I tried looking through the manuals and looking up the problem, but I never really found something. I figured out how to actually get sound to playback by doing that but that's about it.

the speakers are not the problem man....

did you disable the onboard sound that came with your computer after /before you installed your new interface and soiftware?

you might have a conflict in the device manager.....

what OS are you running?

btw...signal chain means all the peripheral components that are included in recording...from microphone to software...and everything that is inbetween...

also...what does your recorded signal LOOK like?

If it is a wall of sound...then your gain is set too high while recording...check your trim for that....

Ahhh I figured it out finally...I went looking for the gain setting...and I realized I had it set at a lower quality of recording. Go figure it'd be something like that. Thanks for all your help. You got me in the right direction!
