Hi

i was wondering if you guys could help me out. I have a pair of JBL Control 1 speakers and would like to use them as monitor speakers for my Korg d1200 recording unit. What i dont know is if you can get cable to go directly from the phono (red n white) output to the black n red inputs on the speakers (2 on each speaker)? I am thinking i may have to use an amp as a go between didnt want to rush out and buy one if i can connect directly.

thanks

According to This what you have are loudspeakers, not studio monitors.
You want the control 5, which the site says are studio monitors.

ideal world

yep you are right - what i have are loud speakers. I am hoping in the future to purchase some actual monitor speakers but until then i am having to try and work with what i have (control 1's). Having tried to mix ome songs using headphones i am realising this is not a good idea. I have the control 1's available now and would like to use them if possible until i can afford a pair of monitors.

Any thoughts on how best to conect themup to my korg unit would be appreciated though

cheers

Those are not powered speakers, you will need a power amp to run those speakers.

Hook the ouputs of the korg to the power amp, then hook the speaker outputs of the power amp to the speakers.

There's nothing wrong with using the Control 1s in a studio. Like Farview said, they are passive (unpowered) speakers/monitors, so you need a power amp. If you have a home audio reciever lying around, you can use that, if it has enough power to drive the Control 1s. (or if it doesn't have too much power)

Ditto on the power amp thing, I have a set of control-1s sitting here on my desk at work. I do a little bit of mixing and editing during breaks, after work and sometimes when work gets slow. The control-1s aren't anything to write home about, but they are certainly usable.

thanks for the help guys

appreciate it.

Going to get myself an amp to drive the control 1's for now i think.

Its got to beat headphones!
