I guess there are as many amplifiers as there are old girfriends; however, forgetting that incongruous simile, I'll tell you about my amp.
I use a Yamaha integrated amplifier to run my home studio. This amp, I can give you its number if you want, will take care of two tape decks, and you can record either way from one to another; it also has a CD input, it has a pure through switch, and it has an AUX for whatever you want to patch in {DAT etc.} and it has a phono patch [for sound effects or whatever] and am/fm.
It comes with a neat remote that lets you operate the volume and a few other items. All this for less than 500 pezzutos.
It will let you plug in two sets of speakers; one set can be banana plugs [nice and tight] and the other set is only set-up for straight wire connection. I have two sets of speakers hooked up but since I got the Yorkvilles, that's all I use most of the time. It puts out 100 W per channel I believe.
Or, as I said above, you can check out other amps and choose to fit your gear. If you can't do a hands on before you buy, then make sure the company will take back the gear with a small stocking charge if it doesn't suit your needs. Ask and ask and poke around and you'll find what you need.
