Hello friends,

Can someone enlighten me on what to look for in purchasing an amplifier to run Monitors(specifically the YSM-1 Yorkvilles). Are their things i should know or consider before buying it? Thanks.....

Everybody here tells me......

HAFLER HAFLER HAFLER

Then I bought one used via the internet from a sketchy store in Illinois. It was broken and blew one of my speakers...go figure.

Do a search and you'll get about a billion posts on Hafler amps.

You can also check out CARVIN products on the net.

I guess there are as many amplifiers as there are old girfriends; however, forgetting that incongruous simile, I'll tell you about my amp.

I use a Yamaha integrated amplifier to run my home studio. This amp, I can give you its number if you want, will take care of two tape decks, and you can record either way from one to another; it also has a CD input, it has a pure through switch, and it has an AUX for whatever you want to patch in {DAT etc.} and it has a phono patch [for sound effects or whatever] and am/fm.

It comes with a neat remote that lets you operate the volume and a few other items. All this for less than 500 pezzutos.

It will let you plug in two sets of speakers; one set can be banana plugs [nice and tight] and the other set is only set-up for straight wire connection. I have two sets of speakers hooked up but since I got the Yorkvilles, that's all I use most of the time. It puts out 100 W per channel I believe.

Or, as I said above, you can check out other amps and choose to fit your gear. If you can't do a hands on before you buy, then make sure the company will take back the gear with a small stocking charge if it doesn't suit your needs. Ask and ask and poke around and you'll find what you need.

Thanks guys!

Thanks for responding Greenhornet and Gnarled. That sounds like a pretty cool setup Greenhornet-i like the tapedeck, cdplayer deal-i never thought about those two items as part of the amp, but it seems very practical indeed. I'll check out CARVER and your Yamaha.....thanks for the suggestions and input.
