Spacers or shims in racks?

Krakit

Rzzzzz!
I've got a peice of hardware that's just about one quarter inch too long for my rack case's depth.

I'm thinking that if I just put a couple of quarter inch spacers between the rails and my rack ears that should do the trick. The face of the unit is flat and allowing it to stick out another quarter inch wouldn't interfere with the cover.

Has anyone attempted anything like this? Anyone know were I could get ready made (preferably aluminum) shims?

Can't you just slide a few washers in between the gear and the rack, then put the screw thru the washers?

I started to experiment with that but it felt too unstable. As if the empty space between the screws had an effect on the firmness of a well seated unit.

I figure if I could find something that will fit between the rack and the unit without gaps that the leverage or whatever would be better supported.

What are you trying to rack? It couldn't be heavy enough to pull the screws out of their threads, even with with washers installed.

If all you need is a spacer, a piece of 1/4" aircraft plywood from a hobby shop behind each rack ear would suffice. Drill holes where the screws go through.

(I fly 1/4scale 50lb planes using this in the wings; it will hold up!)
