Hello all,

I've read thru the past threads on the SP C4's, but have yet to find much discussing there usefulness as a main stereo pair for recording classical music. My interest is specifically in recording small string ensembles and solo violin/viola/cello. I guess my main concern is regarding the natural bass roll off on the cardoid head that the response graph seems to indicate. How do these mics perform for distance miking classical music? Also, i've read that new metal shock mounts are to be forthcoming, will these be included with the kit or as an extra? Thanks all.

SP's do the Job

Hello

I've been impressed with all the SP mics including the C4's.
My short lived experience with the C4's left a pretty good impression.
I especially like the idea of having interchangeable capsules to convert to omni if needed.
The -10db pad and High pass also make them flexible for a number of applications. I tried them as drum over heads and hats as well as a quick acoustic guitar thing and was pleasantly surprised.
I think you'll get good result both up close and distance micing.
I thought they already came with shock mounts; I must have used some of my other ones for the test run.

I did ultimately wind up with the LSD-2 model and use it almost daily.
Are they the best mic you can buy for the application? No.
Are they a good value mic that will do the job? Sure I think so.
